Guest guest
I hope they've stopped vaccinating after the seizures. A few of the things you have written would concern me too, but my son was always happy, so I would not write that off. He's much happier now, but he was never an unhappy child. There's a great checklist here you should forward on: http://www.recoveredfromautism.com/images/ASD%20warning%20signs.pdf Mom to - 4 years old - recovering from PDD-NOS Our recovery story: http://www.recoveringnicholas.com From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Laurie Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 10:14 PM Subject: [ ] An observation of our 17 month old neice I visited my brothers family today. His daughter is 17 mos. old and has just started to walk. She did experience 3 seizures since her flu vaccination in June. Mom is concerned that she may be on the spectrum. Here are some possible red flags that I notice during my visit....she wobbles and falls often while walking, sticks her fingers down throat unti she gags, when trying to talk it sounds like baby babbling (no real words), Does try to say daddy (daeee), while in high chair she screams a lot. Mom says at night that does some weird movements while sleeping. She describe the movements as a backwards crawl rolling from neck to waist. She also grinds her teeth while sleeping. One positive note is she seems pretty happy which is not common for most toddlers on the spectum. She also seems to eat just about anything. Are any of these alarming for a toddler? Any imput would be appreciated. Sincerly, 's Aunty Laurie

Guest guest
, Mom is REALLY concerned of a possibility of being on the spectrum but(my dear brother)is in denial. We thinking of doing an acids test. I've also encouraged Mom to buy as much gluten free food. Dad feeds junk as that is what he prefers. It's a constant battle. We think if we get some concrete evidence through testing that maybe Dad will come aboard with us. What would be a good test? Mom is also looking into chiropractic as she is concerned with constantly falling. If you could elaborate on WHAT are the red flags it would be great! Guest guest
Also one note.....Mom does not want to vaccinate anymore but is afraid Dad may take her in. I'll keep praying for 's protection... as Mom has had, 2 rhogam shots during pregnancy, 2 flu vaccines , 1 during pregnacy and 1 while nursing , also has had all vaccines up until 15 mos plus a flu vaccine which caused 3 seizures. Guest guest
We are now recognizing that the flu vaccine seemed to be " the tipping point " for our son, Nick. It was the final assault to his impaired immune system that seemed to push him over the edge and into some of these other ASD symptoms. My advice would be NO MORE VACCINES for her until you figure everything out- especially because there seems to be a link to seizures and a known vaccine. I know vaccines are a very personal choice and a very hot topic right now, but there is a " herd mentality " where vaccines are concerned and in my opinion vaccines are not appropriate OR safe for all children. And it has taken me some time to get to that attitude. We are all ingrained to think that we MUST do vaccines. I am at the point that I would rather take my chance on the virus especially in the case of the flu! Do you know if she received a flu vaccine with Mercury? I would have her evaluated by your state's early intervention program and also see if there is a local DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) pediatrician near you.. Both my boys are doing biomedical intervention (even without a confirmed diagnosis- ages 2 years 9 months old and 14 months old) and it has been extremely helpful because they are still so young. My son is 14 months old and very delayed in speech and language (approx. 6 months). He is currently receiving SLT 4 times weekly and ABA 2 times weekly. My recommendation would be to get her help with language asap. DO NOT WATCH AND WAIT like the pediatrician's always recommends. That is bad advice. You will never regret getting help too soon but MANY parents regret waiting too long to start intensive services for their kids because by then they've fallen further and further behind and it becomes increasingly more difficult for the child to catch up with their age appropriate peers. I know this is not your child so you have that hurdle to over-come in bringing up the issue. But sooner rather than later is best for the child. I have brought up issues with other family members (and it does not always go over well!!!!) but I always start by saying, " This comes from a place of love. I am concerned about-------------------------- because---------------------. " Good luck to you and I hope she is feeling and doing better soon. Guest guest
If you find a GOOD DAN! doctor they will do many tests for the family to see if there are biochemical things that are " off " . My boys have a significant amount of " off labs " and those have been documented through the DAN! testing. For my boys getting them on a gluten free-casein free diet has been critical. For Nick, my 2 year nine month old, getting him off dairy and casein was critical. And for our baby, Nate, now 14 months old, getting him off gluten was essential. There were immediate behavior changes with both boys. The baby had never spontaneously laughed until we removed gluten. A tell-tale sign of food sensitivities and allergies is dark circles under the child's eyes. Does she have this? Our baby had them and taking him off the offending foods has reduced them significantly! If you go to a DAN! doctor they will do IgG food sensitivity testing. IgG is somewhat controversial but for us it has been life changing. My boys are healthier and feel better on the diet. We work with an excellent nutritionist through our DAN! office. I think she does phone consults too. You are fighting an up-hill battle by the sounds and modifying the way you live through dietary changes is a very tough thing for anyone in our fast food world but it is a critical piece to the puzzle, I believe. At least for my family. So, I think you are right in trying to get them to change her diet. I worry though that if the parents are not receptive, then it's not possible to do the diet successfully. On the GFCF diet, you have to do it 100%. " A little dairy " or " a little gluten " mentality won't help the child. Once their body is contaminated, it's null and void. It sound like the mother got way too many vaccines in pregnancy and I would think the child's immune system is burdened with possible heavy metals and/or detoxification problems like my sons. DAN! would be an excellent choice for your family. Unfortunately, depending on where you live, there are not always GOOD DAN! doctors near people. Where are you located? Guest guest
I think WI is the closest good DAN! doctor I have heard of in your area of the country. Do a search on line and see what you can come up with. Our doctor's web site is good. Take a look. It will give you an idea of what a DAN! doctor does. It's www.drohara.com I know our doctor is not accepting any new patients and she is in CT... which is too far for you. But don't give up. It's important someone acknowledge that there is an issue with , if there is one. Guest guest
I can't say there are definite signs of autism but there are very worrying signs of developing epilepsy. These weird movements during sleep, often falling down when walking might be mini sezures. I would say this should be enough reason even for Dad to stop vaccination. He does not want to risk to bring her to epilepsy. Galina > > I visited my brothers family today. At my house, all of these symptoms meant yeast overgrowth. Some of them also were caused by other things. Dana
Guest guest
A porphyrins test will tell if the baby is toxic. Toxicity may lead to autism. Suggest testing.
