For our son, similar age, we did 5mg biotin daily and 10 drops GSE

daily. Worked rather quickly. You can increase from there if still

needed. We did Nutribiotic liquid GSE. I don't think the biotin brand

really mattered much here.

Just furthering on what said,

If you find that your kid does not like the taste or won't take the

liquid gse, you can use tablets, made by the same company.

We find 1-3 tablets works, have to start at 1/2 and work your way up

over a few days, to find a dose that keeps it down. At times this was

3 a day, at other times, 1 a day. Giving the probiotics also, at least

four hours apart from gse.

My child has been exhibiting SIB all the sudden out of the blue plus

more OCD. I think it's yeast, but not sure. Have any of you ever

used NOW Brand Candida Clear or do most of you use GSE plus

biotin?

We initially used only GSE, then added biotin. Now mostly just

supplement biotin, and use GSE for a flare. Works well here so never

tried any yeast specific supps or meds.

Thanks for the recommendations for Biotin and GSE. I thought I read

a post recently where somebody was recommending 20mg three times

daily of biotin. Is this way off the mark for an adult-sized 135

pound ninteen year old?

By the way, we've used Now's Candida Clear and it seemed to help at

the time, but we'd probably need to use it constantly. I'm seeing

Biotin and GSE as a better mainenance-type alternative. Is this true?

Usually people start low with the biotin and work up to what seems to

work. It can be used as maintenance. We started at 5 mg, and never

needed to increase for our 18yo boy. But, the GSE should not be used as

maintenance, as it kills more than just the yeast. It is great to knock

a flare up back, but we only use it a couple weeks at a time daily at

most. WE also supplement with probiotics when on GSE, since it kills

good stuff too. We do the probiotics in the evening and GSE in the

morning or vice-versa. I believe, the general rule is to give GSE 2

hours away from probiotics.

Something else that helps, which not all know but many do, if you

already do disregard, cut out refined sugars and even most natural

sugars as well as simple carbs. Yeast loves sugar, so don't feed it by

allowing sugar. One of the signs of yeast is actually sugar cravings.

Splenda and other artificial sweeteners are NOT appropriate

substitutions either. If you want to sweeten something, a few drops of

stevia work well. But, some react to stevia too - I believe I've heard

it is an oxalate. We use stevia for 1/2 of the sugar in some recipes

here. Otherwise, we use only turbinado as crystal form sugar or cook

with molasses or honey.

Thanks again, for your timely advice. We do know that yeast

feeds on sugars and we've had our daughter on a low-carb, only slow

digesting " better " carbs and no sugar diet for almost two and a half

years. But alas, the YEAST still flairs and it continues to be a

problem. It's only recently we've seen the correlation with her

anxious/angry/aggressive behaviors. We give probiotics every night,

about 3 hours after she goes to sleep, with some of her night meds.

We'll be sure and keep the GSE separate. We will start on the biotin

asap.

Regards!

The most biotin I gave my son was 20mg 3x per day. I worked up to

this dose. Start low and work up. It does require magnesium for

proper absorption. Too much biotin caused headache here.

Start with one drop GSE and work up.

That was the highest dose I gave my son. He was not as large as your

child. I started at a lower dose and worked up.
