Guest guest Posted May 5, 2009 Report Share Posted May 5, 2009 Job Vacancy: National Program Manager, Health Systems, MI India Company Name: Micronutrient Initiative Job Location: New Delhi, India Date posted: 05/04/2009 Overall Purpose/Broad Function: The primary purpose of this position is to manage the MI's programs that are linked to health systems (mainly Vitamin A supplementation (VAS), zinc supplementation and some IFA supplementation programs) in India. Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Coordinate the overall planning, management and program decision making of MI's VAS, zinc supplementation in treatment of diarrhoea and IFA supplementation programs in India; • Ensure technically sound inputs on VAS, zinc and IFA supplementation program sections of the MI India Program of Work and Budget and other planning documents; monitor progress in its implementation and ensure that results are achieved and reported; • Manage the professional and technical staff/consultants required to work on the health system linked programs in India through: recruitment, goal setting, performance management (evaluates performance on a regular, periodic basis), identification of training needs, coaching, counselling, discipline and provision of leadership. The position will not directly manage staff but will oversee the work of consultants. • Develop project plans and budgets for the identified programs in India. Once approval is obtained, manage the plans of work and budgets; • Provide inputs to reports to donors, the MI Board and other stakeholders, as requested; • Assess programming opportunities regarding VAS, zinc and IFA supplementation programs in India (in collaboration with MI Asia); • Explore and develop the potential for resource expansion to support VAS, zinc and IFA supplementation programs in India and participate in drafting proposals and following up with donors as requested; • Prepare a communications work plan for the India VAS, zinc and IFA supplementation programs and collaborate with the MI's Communications Unit concerning the preparation of press releases, project flyers and other communication materials relating to these programs. Supervisory Responsibilities: The position will not directly supervise any staff, but will supervise the work of consultants as well as the work of project partners. Education/Professional Designations/Experience: • A professional degree in medicine, health systems management, nutrition, public health, international development and/or a related field. • A good understanding of human nutrition, the role of micronutrients and/or experience in working with the Health Systems and the Integrated Child Development program in India would be a plus. • Good knowledge of government policies and programs to address nutrition in India. • At least 10 years of work experience with national and state governments, NGOs, community groups, and/or UN agencies (preferably a combination of experience in at least two of these). Language Skills: Apart from Hindi, fluency in English (reading, writing & oratory skills) is a prerequisite. Travel Requirements: Frequent (monthly, at least a week each trip) travel within India. Infrequent travel upon request (approx 1-3 times, 1 week each) outside India. Other Specific Skill Requirements: • A result-oriented approach and proven ability to manage and coordinate complex multi-partner programs. • Ability to network and negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, especially national and state governments to achieve the objectives of the VAS, zinc and IFA supplementation programs. • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently and generate innovation. • Strong communications skills (oral and written).
