Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/10591 It is the matter of serious concern to professionals and agencies involved in the battle against AIDS. We had organized (by Global Science Academy, Basti, UP) exclusive events in recent past-namely, " HIV/AIDS and Vulnerability of Uttar Pradesh " 2006 (UNDP supported) and " International Women's Day celebration " -2009 (as published on AIDS-India on March 10, 2009) and come across many factors involved in contributing this situation. Gender power imbalances and social and economic factor that restrict behavior change are urgently needed to be addressed through appropriate action in the state which should focus on issues like gender equality including women access to education and information, sexual and reproductive health services, female-controlled prevention methods like female condom and vaginal microbicide, and prevention of mother- to –child transmission. In India, 38% of all HIV infections belong to women and 75% of new infections were acquired from a spouse or regular sex-partner which indicated male irresponsibility in sexual issues, including HIV prevention while according to USAID and NACO survey findings compel to launch exclusive programmes to support to women at grassroots in UP on an urgent basis.
