Melatonin is fine, I have used it for my son (5 year old). I break off

a teeny piece of the pill (haven't needed to lately) and it works

effectively.

Waking up in the middle of the night has been explained to be caused a lot of

times by stress on the liver (can be caused by chelation or other biomed

interventions or just overall stress) I started my boys on Liver Life by Bio Ray

and no more night wakings.  It is wonderful.

Melatonin helped my boys go to sleep but Liver Life is what helped them to stay

asleep because it supports the liver's ability to detox.

Melatonin is very safe to use. Melatonin at night and co-q-10 in

the morning (about 12 hours before you want them to go to sleep) can

help with the brain chemistry, if that is the issue. Sometimes it

is. Sometimes it's not. When I take melatonin, I buy the tiniest

dosage I can buy, which is I think 300mcg (vs 3mg for the standard

dose -- about 10 times as much, I think). Then I take just a little

of that. If it doesn't work within 30 minutes, I can always take

more. But if I take too much, I have real trouble waking up the

next day and may not feel fully awake again for up to 3 days. I

don't like that. So I am conservative about how much I take.

However, some people have found that the bedding/sleep area were not

really clean enough and this was interfering with sleep. My first

suggestion for sleep problems is always to try washing all bedding

and cleaning the bedroom, etc. to see if dust, allergens, mold or

mildew are the real problem. Molds and stuff are more active at

night. Basically, if you sleep while they are active, they are more

able to attack you at will. I find I am unable to sleep when there

is a problem like this near my sleep area and I will stay up until

dawn and then fall asleep.

Good luck.

At my house, this was caused by food issues and yeast overgrowth.

Hi Dana, could you explain what the difference is between the product Liver

Life and using Milk Thistle, which is for the liver also.. I have never

heard of Liver Life and would like to know if is basically the same thing..

and where do you get it.. also, is it used mainly for sleep?? My son is in

puberty and is having a hard time staying asleep.. and at the present time

we need help keeping him asleep... I look forward to your answer.. Have a

great week...

Parasites and/or worms are another common cause of night-waking and

agitation. The worms are active at night and apparently come out of

the anus at night to lay eggs and this causes wakings and agitation in

kids.

You can check for signs of worms by using a flashlight and having a

peek at night to check for activity (this is recommended even by

mainstream doctors in Europe where I live). Or you can put a piece of

tape over the anus and check it in the morning for signs of eggs. And

check the bum area, diaper or underwear for sign of eggs too.

In Europe, it's part of the culture of mainstream medicine in some

countries to recommend treatment for children who suddenly go through

periods of night-waking and agitation. It's not uncommon for doctors

here in France to prescribe a treatment for kids with a sudden onset

of wakings and agitation if the families have cats or other pets that

typically carry worms. Our ASD kids are more susceptible to getting

worms or parasites, so it's something to watch for.

My daughter has shown signs of worms or parasites for a few months

(signs included wakings, agitation and difficulty getting back to

sleep, and small white dots in the bum that appeared cyclically). I

treated her over the summer with black walnut hull, cloves, and

wormwood. You can search the archives for more info about this

subject. Her sleep has been much better since the treatment and I'm

crossing my fingers that the treatment got rid of the pesky little

beasts.

Just another option for you to consider.
