Save the Children UK. Health Internship Programme 2009-10

The recruitment for the Health Internship Programme is now live! Attached is the

information pack document that contains full details of the scheme and what

we're looking for. Please pass on to others who you think may be interested in

applying.

What is the Health Internship Programme?

The Health Internship Programme is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on

experience in international health programmes. This one year scheme is designed

to enable participants to develop the necessary skills to launch a career in

global health with Save the Children.

This is an exciting time for Save the Childrens programme and policy work in

health, the focus of which is the critical issue of child survival. Our vision

is that within five years no child under the age of five dies from preventable

causes and public attitudes will not tolerate a return to high levels of child

deaths.

Our goal is that MDG4 is achieved. This means that child mortality is reduced by

two thirds in 2015, saving the lives of almost six million children each year.

The Health Internship Programme is expected to contribute to these objectives.

As an intern you will follow a short orientation programme in the Save the

Children London office. You will then undertake a ten-month placement in a Save

the Children country programme.

You will work alongside health professionals and will receive coaching to

facilitate the development of the skills required to manage health programme

work.

Candidates:

We are looking for talented people committed to long-term service in the field

of global health, who can demonstrate outstanding people skills and the

motivation to develop excellent technical knowledge and expertise. Applicants

should have either a health-related qualification or experience of working in a

health programme in a low or middle-income country. We are particularly keen to

receive applications from candidates from low and middle-income countries.

You will be provided with a internship allowance of £10,794 pa (gross) and a

package that includes flights, accommodation and emergency medical cover. More

information can be accessed on the Save the Children website at

www.savethechildren.org.uk/jobs ref.5252

Applications:

Please apply via the website. You will be asked to submit a copy of your CV (no

more than 2 pages), a supporting statement and a short written assignment.

Successful applicants will be invited for interview in late August 2009.

The closing date for applications is 16th August 2009. The internship programme

will start in mid October 2009.
