Application for Membership to the AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific

Becoming a Member of ASAP

ASAP is seeking to link peak HIV/AIDS bodies, national AIDS organisations,

together with research institutions and regional NGOs throughout the

Asia-Pacific. Importantly, the new membership arrangements are designed to

enable the creation of necessary new linkages between a broad range of civil

society actors working in HIV/AIDS but which previously appear to have fallen

between, or are not represented by, other regional networks.

ASAP procedures are constrained by its Rules that include a set of

`Eligibility Criteria' for membership. Indeed, where organisations other than

national organisations seek to join ASAP, we may find it necessary to ask for

reasons as to why applicants believe current peak national bodies are not open

to them and hence a more appropriate alternative.

Eligibility Criteria

In order for an organisation to become a Member of ASAP, the organisation must

either be:

An non-government organisation, a community based organisation (regardless of

local, national, regional or global reach) or a research institution or other

similar organisation; or

An organisation whose mission, aims and objectives are determined by the

Executive Committee to be consistent with those of ASAP; and

If requested by the Executive Committee, provide evidence of the work and

activities of the organisation which are consistent with those of ASAP; and

Originate from any country in Asia or the Pacific Islands; and Pay the

Membership Fees by the due date as determined by the Executive Committee from

time to time.

The Executive Committee will review the membership application and advise the

organisation of its decision. Organisations becoming new members will be advised

of account details and invited to electronically transfer their fee to

facilitate payment.
