Subject: Demand for making Darjeeling Link ART Centre fully functional

We, the Darjeeling Network of HIV Positive People want to bring to

your attention the non functioning of the link ART centre at the

Darjeeling District Hospital even after two years of its opening.

Where there were at 5 patients out of more than 100 who are receiving

Art from the link centre, now it has been brought to our attention

that even the two patients have been referred back NBMCH upon

investigating this with NBMCH we were told that the non availability

of drugs and a regular doctor at the link ART centre was the cause of

the non – functionality.

Several PLHAs have complained about the negligence of the doctor who is charge

of the link ART centre.

We have been constantly bringing to your notice the non functioning of

ART centre, but we would like to reiterate that it is difficult to

access ART from NBMCH as most of the PLHAs belong to BPL, category and

come from rural areas.

Thus the functioning of the link ART centre would greatly increase the access to

ART and also reduce the economic burden and stress on health for the PLHAs of

Darjeeling.

Therefore we request the NACCO to act on this situation promptly and

bring it to the notice of the district administration.

We demand:

1. That a responsible doctor be reinstated in place of the present

doctor who has been known to be negligent.

2. The ART link centre be made functional and equipped in accordance

with guidelines of NACP so that more PLHAs of the Darjeeling Hills

access ART from the link ART.
