Guest guest
Hi everyone - I am new here. My son has never been diagnosed as autistic, but has many similar characteristics (sensory int., emotional problems, some social stuff, and physical delays, for example). He has made huge strides since he was younger (OT, etc.), but I am still wary to give him more vaccines. This is something I have been back and forth about for a while (he got his MMR at his 5 year checkup which was back in Feb. and I insisted on seeing that it was thimerosal free - but just in the last week have discovered that there is more to it than just that!). They wanted me to give him the other 2 that he needs (DTP and chickenpox) at the same time but I said it was too much at once. Anyhow, I now am sure I don't want him to have any more (since I've just been reading more) and he is going to kindergarten in about 10 days! He has an appt. for the vac. this Friday (which I am going to cancel of course - but not sure if they are going to ask me questions?) I am planning on claiming religious exemption, but wanted to know a little about that first. The truth is we really don't follow any particular religion and I am wondering if they ask you a lot of questions about it. In other words, (I live in MA by the way and it says we just have to state in writing that it is against our religious beliefs), do you just give them the letter and that's it? Or is it more complicated? Thanks.
