Hello,

My DS(now 2) has yellowish skin tone since he turned 1 year. His palms

are yellow and they are more yellow first thing in the morning.

His eyes are clear and white, his urine is clear, his finger nails are

clear. I asked his peadratician and he dismissed it as feeding too

much carrots. And he has been like this for the last one year.

I dont have a good feeling and I am worried. Any idea what this could

be so I can go and bug his peadatrician.

Appreciate your response.

Thanks,

Maya

Thanks ....This makes some sense as he has absorption issues

but hardly any yeast at all. I have stopped carrots completely from

his diet now to see if it helps.

You need to check his liver function, via blood test.

HI Maya,

In a quick search I find discussion of individuals who eat lots of papaya having

yellow palms/hands. I also see a reference to a thyroid issue.

Maya,

Yellowing of your skin can be many things...But one that comes to

mind is Jaundice...

Jaundice, also referred to as icterus, is the yellow staining of the

skin and sclerae (the whites of the eyes) by abnormally high blood

levels of the bile pigment, bilirubin. The yellowing extends to other

tissues and body fluids and also may turn the urine dark. Yellowing

of only the skin also can be caused by eating too many carrots or

drinking too much carrot juice.

The bile pigment, bilirubin, comes from red blood cells. When old red

blood cells are destroyed by the body (a normal process), the oxygen-

carrying molecule within the cells, hemoglobin, is released into the

blood. The hemoglobin is rapidly converted to bilirubin in the blood.

The bilirubin is removed from the blood by the liver, modified, and

excreted into the bile. The bile flows into the intestine so that the

bilirubin is eliminated in the stool. (It is bilirubin that gives

stool its brown color.) Jaundice can occur whenever this normal

process of destruction of red blood cells and elimination of

bilirubin is interrupted. This occurs when there is abnormally

increased destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis), liver disease

that reduces the ability of the liver to remove and modify bilirubin,

or obstruction to the flow of bile into the intestine.

I do have another question for you...when was the last time your

kiddo had their liver function checked and kidneys? How much vitamin

A are you giving? What anti fungles are you giving? Some of them have

to be monitored so not to cause liver disease? What color is your

kiddos urine..

What supps?

Just a few thoughts..

Hi Maya

We as a family didn't realize how yellow our skin was getting until we

started doing epsom salt baths every day. It has completely cleared up

now. The liver is supported by the sulfate portion and it is more

effective than taking a supp as it bypasses the whole digestion thing

and just goes straight through the skin to the blood stream. Wonderful

stuff. Google Dr Rosemary Waring, she was the researcher who

discovered the low blood plasma sulfate link with kids on the spectrum.

sorry about the previous accidental send,

Accumulation of yellow colour can be from betacarotene - but you don't

have to eat too many carrots to get it - the liver converts the beta

carotene to Vitamin A - so problems with the conversion cause a back log

of Betacarotene turning the skin yellow - it can be associated with low

thyroid levels because you need thyroid hormone for the conversion

process (in the back of my mind I have a niggling thought that B2 might

be involved somehow as well)

This is one sign of improper carotene conversion, which was one of my

son's major problems. According to a book I have, the body requires

vitamin C, zinc, and thyroid hormone to convert carotene into vitamin

A. My son also required selenium, which supports the thyroid.

I have just seen your post. I found out that conversion from

beta-carotene to retinol relies on a healthy thyroid/and or iodine. Can

you tell me where you saw this as I am collecting information on this.

According to a book I have, carotene conversion requires zinc, vitamin

C, and thyroid hormone. My son also needed selenium, which also

supports the thyroid. The name of the book is The Natural Physician's

Healing Therapies, by Mark Stengler, ND.
