Guest guest Posted June 16, 2010 Report Share Posted June 16, 2010 THE GLOBAL LABORATORY INITIATIVE WORKING GROUP, STOP-TB PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT The Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI) is announcing a call for applications for a roster of GLI TB Laboratory Consultants In-country technical assistance from experience TB consultants is needed to accelerate and expand access to quality assured TB diagnostic services within integrated laboratory systems. The Global Laboratory Initiative http://www.stoptb.org/wg/gli/ proposes to establish a database of TB consultants who are available to assume broader laboratory strengthening responsibilities in response to the World Health Assembly 2009 call for universal access to TB diagnosis and the demand for expanded global drug resistance surveillance capacity strengthening. Overall, these consultants should be able to provide strategic and technical support to laboratory strengthening efforts and be able to accomplish the following: Promote and disseminate GLI strategic priorities and activities, including: Policy guidance on appropriate TB laboratory technologies, infrastructure and biosafety, and best-practices; Laboratory capacity development, including technology transfer and know-how, monitoring and evaluation, and quality improvement; Interface with other laboratory networks to facilitate integration; Human resource development, including training and mentoring. Support countries in developing TB laboratory strengthening plans within the context of national laboratory strategies; Guide and support countries in rapidly implementing WHO policies for TB diagnosis; Guide and support countries in preparing Global Fund applications containing adequate and appropriate laboratory strengthening components; Support development and expansion of country TB laboratory networks, including strengthened national TB reference laboratories with links to the WHO-GLI Supranational Reference Laboratory Network; Promote interaction and collaboration with laboratory stakeholders at national and regional levels. The GLI secretariat will be coordinating the TB Laboratory Consultants Roster and interact with other Stop TB Partnership Working Groups and stakeholders such as the Green Light Committee (GLC) and TBTEAM (http://www.stoptb.org/countries/tbteam) to disseminate the information. Interested persons are encouraged to complete the attached application to register your willingness to be included as part of GLI roster of TB Laboratory Consultants.
