Guest guest
, I had the same problem as you when first starting out with ALA. ALA doesn't 'dissolve' in water. You really need to give it a good swish/stir, before quickly drawing the dose up. This way you have a good amount of the ALA 'mixed through the water', before it 'falls back to the bottom of the container'. Dont worry about this too much, as if you give a good swish before each dose, you'll find you won't be left with an excess amount of ALA compared to water at the end of the day/round. 1 ml of water per dose is what I use no matter how many mgs of ALA I use...24mls for 24 doses. The powder doesn't seem to dissolve very well in liquid. This may seem like a really dumb problem...but I want to get the dose in minimal amt of fluid. I was planning to give it via syringe, dissolved in a small amt of warm water for the night- time doses. But it leaves much of the ALA in the tiny glass bowl, once I draw it up into syringe. Is there a better way? Or a better form? Or is this pretty usual? Should I increase dose, allowing for the wasted residual in the bottom of the glass cup? Since I just started, I am doing .125 mg per pound (which means 4 mg per dose for my 32- pound sweetie). But maybe I should increase-- if this is tolerated--since I am leaving visible amts. clinging to the side of the bowl? Thanks for ideas... Start your day with 7 and win a Sony Bravia TV. Guest guest
I don't know if you use honey, but I put a small amount of honey in a medicine cup and then mix the ALA in with it. The ALA will stick to the honey. Then I draw it all up into an oral syringe and give it to her that way. I am looking for a morter and pestal right now. You can really crush the powder with one of those and add it to juice. I can't seem to find one locally though. > > I just started ALA with my son. I'm using Kirkman's. Guest guest
I've always given ALA with other supps, like probiotics, which seems to help. If you mix up the powders together with something like a bit of pear sauce and then add the liquid for the syringe, then you seem to get all of it. Anita > > > > I just started ALA with my son. Guest guest
Donna. Did you mix 24 doses in 24 ml in a singel batch and use that during a 3-4 days? Thanks.
