Wife looking to punish dying HIV+ husband now having second thoughts

Rape charges had been filed against the man accused of keeping his wife in the

dark

As Ambernath cops set out to arrest a 45-yr-old man, on charges of raping his

wife and keeping her in the dark about him being HIV positive, they believed

they were responding to their call of duty.

They were flummoxed when they realised that the accused was bed -ridden and

breathing his last.

The complainant and her husband married in December 2007 and stayed together for

over a year. " It was a second marriage for both of us and we decided to put our

past behind us.

Everything was going on fine, " said the victim, who used to live with her

husband in Vithalwadi with her nine-year-old daughter from the first marriage.

After he disappeared, the woman frantically looked for her husband, in vain.

Finally she got in touch with his relatives who told her that was HIV positive.

" I got myself tested only to realise that I was HIV positive too. He obviously

was well aware that he was HIV positive and yet married me by keeping me in

dark, " complained the woman.

On Tuesday the woman approached the cops saying she wanted to punish her

husband. " We took down her statement and were all set to arrest her husband for

rape.

However, we were shocked to know that he is bed ridden and in the final stages

of his life. The woman has also seen her husband's condition, " said Assistant

Commissioner of Police Smita Pathak.
