Guest guest
Dear All, Re: /message/11470 We all need many such studies to facilitate 'evidence -based medicine' and related interventions in the field of RTI/STI/HIV/AIDS control. We must switch over anecdotal data from 'Archie comics' and what have you to specific endeavours dedicated to 'Archie Cochrane' to strengthen the available evidence substantiated by relevant systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/11470 The STI/HIV positivity was observed higher among those who had knowledge of STI (21.82%) compared to those who did not have knowledge of STI (12.93%). It rather seems the corollary- that among those with STI, the knowledge levels were higher. This may be attributed to information imparted by service provider. It will be interesting to learn how many of these had earlier STI episodes. That may explain the paradoxical relation with knowledge. Or was it that despite knowledge, they did not have control over sexuality a decision of condom use by partners. Guest guest
Dear All, Re: /message/11470 Studies like this and experiences from the field shows that there is a shift in the STI spectrum from bacterial to viral and ulcerative to non ulcerative. It is time we should look it in the perspective of HIV transmission. Control of these STIs may not have any impact on HIV control on long term. Also it is well known that syndromic management can over estimate many syndromes in low prevalent situations. I do agree that interventions to reduce STI will help in transmission of HIV and Reproductive tract Infections but not the treatment component of these programs. Probably it is time for us to have re look at the epidemiology of STI in various geographical areas and make evidence based programs in the area of STI.
