Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/11156 This is a shocking news. Kerala is celebrating as 100 % litrecy, and such things are still happening in kerala. Can any of our team members can post the article ? Arun Menon e-mail: <arunmph@...> -- Arun Menon. M.P.H, M.S.W. Guest guest
Dear AIDS-India, Re: /message/11156 If this is the state of affairs in the supposedly most progressive state in India after nearly 25+ of the discovery of the HIV retrovirus, it should shame all representatives of that state. Thank you, Sincerely yours, Priyadarshi Datta, PLWHA. e-mail: <pdatta@...>
Guest guest
Dear FORUM, If this is true, it needs to be investigated and strict action taken against the people who are perpetrating this cruelty. Guest guest
Dear Forum members, Re: /message/11156 Sure, it is painful and shocking. It does not have much to do with literacy or education. It is the question of mind set. And, mindset, as we all know, is linked with socio-cultural questions. It points towards the serious lacunae in the IEC programmes of the State. I too am a Keralite and I had been part of the HIV/AIDS programme initiatives of the State, though currently I am living outside Kerala. Issues of stigma and discrimination used to be strongly there in Kerala and this is the latest in the series. It is yet another strong reminder to all of us who are concerned about the programme and the cause of PLHIVs Abraham Mathew e-mail: <abm.mathew@...>
Guest guest
Dear All, Re: /message/11156 There is a paradoxical situation for many things in kerala. High literacy and modern values on one side and feudal values and herd feeling on the other, exist together. Here, the parents or family have put the person in the chain. And also it is mentioned that the person had some bad behaviour before. It indicates the misunderstanding about human rights prevailed in our society. It often happens like this. If a person did a crime or sometimes, if other people think he did a crime, any violation to his right would get justified. This is the mindset constructed by primitive consciousness, a herd like feeling. People take law in their hands. Here, one more thing I see. The parents consider the person as their property and their sole responsibility to change him or whatever, as if state or society do not have any role. I am not accusing that particular family; they just carry the societal values. Regards Dr.Jayasree.A.K e-mail- akjayasree@...
Guest guest
Dear Jayasree , Re: /message/11156 Is it because we don't have a proper social security system to fall back on? Do we have a system ( other than prisons and orphanages) to help people with mental health problems, personality problems etc (Kerala) being a ' developed society " we are intolerant to any thing of this sort which other communities used to accept part of the society. So it is time we people i n kerala develop a social security and support policy and integrate it with the existing system. Guest guest
Dear forum, Re: /message/11156 Detaining a positive person in Kerala is a big concern for us. It is like al the PLHA are being blamed. If the persons is HIV positive so what? Is he is not a human being? He is suffering from stigma and discrimination. This is shame for all of us. Its not only the matter of Kerala alone, it is the matter of concern for whole country. It is a bad impression of our culture and our humanity. This is dangerous for PLHIV persons. We should try to do all the efforts to make the situation of this person better. Regards Gopal Gaur Vice President BNP+ Varanasi Contact no. – 9648737365 E-mail ID – bnpupnp@... Guest guest
Dear Ajith and others, Re: /message/11156 Hope the social security mission in Kerala may take up the issue, if any of the positive network or their supportive NGOs demand it. Guest guest
Dear Forum, Re: /message/11156 This is utterly shameful and degrading on the part of human behaviour. People are still living in the prehistoric age and have no concern for the human values. Does Kerala SACS has anything to say about this shameful incident?
