Guest guest
If you find one let me know. I'm looking too. Originally a DAN had put my son on CLO, and he knew he was soy sensitive, so I made the mistake of trying it. It took us a month to get the poor kid back on track from that. Then I went back and explained AGAIN about soy being an issue and he sold us an EPA that ALSO had soy in it! Luckily I caught it that time and did not give it to my son. And I cancelled the next appt with that doctor, that was his 3rd thing that I had to " catch " . > > Can someone recommend soy free Omega 3 & 6? Guest guest
I've heard Manitoba Harvest's process for making hempseed oil, and no mention of soy. And you can call Barleans (the flaxseed oil people) and ask, although when I talked to them, soy wasn't mentioned. And as far as I know Dr. Fuhrman's DHA is from microalgae only. ... I just went and called them again to make sure there's no soy in it. There isn't. It says that a few drops, easily hidden in food, delivers a full dose of omega 3. Guest guest
As to the 6's to 3's ratio part of this question, I just watched a fantastic video about this very topic. " Essential Facts About Essential Fats " (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7305832096911620394) And I found out that, except for me, my whole family is NOT getting ENOUGH Omega-6's mostly due to 3-supplementing plus an extremely low processed food intake, and also the fact that we use olive and coconut oils only in the home. I never thought about it in this way...just that " X oil is healthier " or " X oil is unhealthy " and that's not entirely true...we DO need Omega- 6's. So I bought Grapeseed oil to use part of the time to help balance that out. Now, we're not typical (though we might have company within this group of careful GFCF diets, etc...) The presenter says that most people get a ratio of up to 20:1 Omega 6's to Omega 3's so for most people supplementing 3's is recommended as well as cutting down on 6's by substituting olive oil, etc (this is why large scale studies show ANY consumption of olive oil has beneficial health effects...not because Olive oil is so healthy, in and of itself, it's just an Omega 9 and doesn't affect the ratio of Essential Fats negatively). So, the proper ratio of all intake (not just supplements but from all sources) should be somewhere between 4:1 and 1:1 Omega 6's to Omega 3's, he says. VERY informative video (stick with it, starts out slow) and lists a lot of the foods which contribute to these ratios, and WHAT they do in the body, and WHY.
