The Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO) will act love-guru and host a

V-day get-together for couples living with HIV/AIDS, on the theme ‘ART of love’.

The ICWO’s Valentine’s Day party aims to convince people with HIV that they

deserve good companionship and can lead long and happy marital lives by

enrolling themselves for Anti-Retroviral Therapy.

“We have invited people living with HIV from all districts, especially infected

couples, who will talk about how they have safely had children and are able to

live normal, healthy lives,” says A.J. Hariharan, director, ICWO. Young couples

may be inspired to find love at such a gathering, he said.

“While there are already around 30,000 people registered with the 36 ART centres

across the state, there are thousands who have not registered as they do not

want to come public with their HIV status. At this event, we will assure them

that ART registration is confidential, and even if they do not need anti

retroviral drugs right now, it is better that they register immediately,” he

said.

The V-day party will inv-olve games that couples can play, a cultural programme

and an interactive session, where couples will share their experiences in

fighting the chronic illness, ‘to enc-ourage true love’ between PLHIV. “HIV

positive people can walk into Prin-ce Plaza in Egmore at 11 am on February 13

and join us for the event,” said Daisy, ICWO project co-ordinator.
