Thank you guys for answering my post. Anne, yes I do supplement with calcium

about 250

mg per day. Our DAN! has told me on a few occasions not to do so. He is

against giving lots

of supps, and is always telling me to stop CLO, vit c etc, so I don't listen to

him. Should I try

stopping the calcium and see if that helps? We are casein free and a I worry

other than a

couple of bottles of rice milk a day, my kid will get no calcium. His diet is

very limited, so it

is a catch 22. I had not read that calcium can cause copper retention.

, as to your question about zinc, he gets about 20mg divided up in the day

with

meals, plus 15 mg from his multi and I give him an additional 20mg at night on an

empty

stomach. So he gets about 55 mg of zinc and he weighs about 30 - 31 lbs. I

thought this

was enough. He does not chew per se, but suddenly he has been biting on his

clothes

frequently throughout the day. Is this a sign that he needs more zinc? We are

using DMSA

along with ALA, which I know depletes zinc.

Irene,

When my DS is chewing, the thing he chews on the most are his

shirts. He'll sit in front of the TV and pull up the neckband on his

t-shirt and chew until the whole front is wet..then he'll start on

the sleeve. So...maybe more zinc is needed. Try an extra 10 mg/day

for a couple of weeks and see if the shirt biting goes away. It does

usually take a couple of weeks of xtra zinc for me to see results.
