Guest guest
I have strep right now, and can't speak, can't get out one word. My son seems to empathize with me. He knows mommy is like him now I think, so frustrating to have the will, but just not physically be able to speak. I spoke at age one, and have never shut up since. Never lost my voice before. My son keeps coming up to me and hugging me and giving me some of the best eye contact he ever has. And I communicate with him by pointing and signing, which he usually never pays attention to when words accompany gestures. He seems very tuned into me somehow. We are all so focused on getting our kids to use words and be a part of the regular world, our world, now I am suddenly in his, and he knows it. My son does have language, but it is still a struggle for him. Just wanted to share this, an interesting insight.

One of my older kids was talking by just over a year old & hasn't stopped since Put me to sleep, more than once, while I was putting him to bed & he just would jabber/jabber/jabber, telling all about ALL the stuff he saw, and did, and noticed that day - cute stuff, but manohman...I tell him often, there is a reason one year old's don't talk yet - their perspective is hilarious AND frustrating...I do like the rest of your post, and sooo agree - we do get the most startling & helpful insights at times... but this one part - well, made my girl jump (sleeping when I did my snort/laugh thing wishing you the best answers, elizabeth My son keeps coming up to me and hugging me and giving me some of the > best eye contact he ever has.
