Guest guest
My poor boys lips are cracked and bleeding they are so dry. They are painful to even look at! What does dry and cracked lips indicate? What is the best supplement for this? What is the best topical treatment? We have tried several things with only limited help... Guest guest
Our son deals with cracked lips during the colder seasons. What worked best for us was a mixure of bee's wax, royal jelly and raw honey. We use this at bedtime and by morning they look and feel good as new. Raw honey truly does the trick all by itself and I have to put a thin layer on his lips while he's sleeping. It's truly the best! When I say (RAW) honey I mean absolutly no processing done to it. Hope this helps, Laurie > > My poor boys lips are cracked and bleeding they are so dry. Guest guest
Are you giving Vitamin A? Chapped lips are the first sign of too much Vitamin A. Is he licking his lips? Guest guest
Alyssa, We struggled with this all last winter/spring. Turns out our son was allergic to soy - and many lip balms use soybean oil as an ingredient, if not the main ingredient. Once we got the soy out of his diet, and started rubbing organic 100% coconut oil, or jojoba oil or shea butter on his lips they healed right up. Getting yeast under control helped, too. > > From: <Ladyshrink111@...> > Subject: Re: [ ] best treatment for severely cracked lips > > Date: Friday, December 5, 2008, 10:21 PM > > > > > > > Are you giving Vitamin A? Guest guest
I'm sure Dana will chime in, but B2 is supposed to help. B1 and B12 deplete B2 is what she said, and she's right - I started taking mB12 when my lips started to crack. I stopped the B12 and just started B2 today. Or EFAs? Guest guest
Thanks . He is already soy free in his diet but I never thought to look at the contents of the chap stick! We have tried Vaseline and Aquaphor but they just aren't working. I think yeast is playing an ugly role in this symptom for him too. Guest guest
> > What is the best topical treatment? > > Carmex is very popular with soldiers, who have to deal with the weather in the field for sometimes several weeks at a time (like in the Mojave Desert, where we have a training center). I use that. But as someone else suggested: read the ingredients first and make sure it doesn't have any offenders for your kid. Good luck with this. Guest guest
Alyssa, Look at the ingredients in vaseline and aquaphor - chemicals. One of them may be making it worse. It took me a few months on soy-free diet to figure out there was soybean oil in lip balm, too. Also I found that the " fancy smelly " hand soap from the smelly bath mall store that my mom has at her house has soybean oil in it - in addition to all the chemicals - so watch out for that too. Also look at childrens body wash and lotions. > > > > From: <Ladyshrink111@ ...> > > Subject: Re: [ ] best treatment for severely cracked > lips > > > > Date: Friday, December 5, 2008, 10:21 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Are you giving Vitamin A? Guest guest
Sorry, I've not followed the thread and I may be repeating, but here extra b vitamins, esp b2, help. Both dh and ds have this problem. Anita > > My poor boys lips are cracked and bleeding they are so dry. Guest guest
LANOLIN is our favorite overall. For outings, we take along Burt's Bees honey type for the kids, Burt's Bees standard lip balm for me (peppermint is too much for the kids to take sometimes)
