Premade low dose ALA capsules?

Is there a realtively easy way to get premade low dose (say 5 mg) doses

of ALA already pre-made into a capsule?

My son swallows capsules and I would prefer to give ALA to him that way

but would rather not mess with/risk compounding it myself.

Thanks,

Beth

No, other than getting it compounded.

The lowest I have found is 25 mg capsules, that I divide into the dose

we need and put into empty capsules. This is what most everyone here

has to do. Very few have it compounded or can afford to.

It's not really too bad doing it yourself.. this is what the pharmacy

would do anyway. You take a plate and open the capsule, divide it into

the number of piles you need to get the dose you need.

For example for us 12.5mg, what we do is take half the powder out of

the capsule and pour it into an empty one. Put the caps back on..done.

Then we have two doses.

For 5mg, it would be like this: you would need to divide the contents

of the capsule evenly among five capsules the same size. then you'd

have 5mg each. You can buy empty capsules at the HFS or order them

online.

It would be a Godsend if someone did make 5mg capsules of ala. But no

luck so far.

Please call Kirkman's and explain to them why you want it. Ditto for

VRP. I think VRP started making DMSA in a BIT smaller amount per

capsule -- they were pretty slow to do it, but they did do it

eventually. (And I'm not saying MUCH smaller amts are not still

needed....)

not been updated in a few years, and needs desparately to be)

Please note that after you open the capsule it is also okay (and

helpful) to mix the powder with something else -- we'll say vitamin C

powder or rice flour as examples -- then divide THAT into 5. You do

have to MIX IT WELL.

There are also some methods where you mix into liquid (like water or

juice) -- but I've forgotten it all. Read more here:

===>Beth,

There is a dr in Ohio who sells premade low dose Ala capsules. You do,

however have to go to the frequent dose list to inquire about these.

I think, although not for positive, they are quite pricey. It's really not

hard to take a 25 mg capsule and eyeball it into 5 doses. The most important

part is the dose " timing " , not to get each dose exactly the same.

It only costs us $10 per hundred to get it compounded in the amount we

need. I figure that is $10 more for every 4.5 weeks of chelation.

Pretty cheap - $2.50 a week. It might be worth checking with your local

compounding pharmacy to see how much they charge.

Does the pharmacy ask for a prescription to compound the ALA?

Has anyone had DMSA compounded?

No, since no prescription needed for ALA.
