Thanks for your help Dana. I am thinking may son may in fact be

calcium toxic. This week we started additional fish oil, and the

teacher reports he is much calmer and using more sentences. But I

also removed his Kirkman calcium supplement this week after receiving

his hair test results, amidst concerns that it might be harming him.

The night before last, my husband gave me a hard time about taking it

away, that our son might be calcium " deprived " - so I gave the calcium

in the evening, immediately thereafter he became very hyper. Then he

woke up at 4 am, and could not sleep. He is a very good sleeper and

this almost never happens, maybe once when we stopped anti fungals

awhile back for a bit, and yeast became an issue, but the night waking

then was accompanied by giggling. This night waking was different, I

am thinking that it might in fact have been related to the calcium.

So I have suspended giving the calcium for now. I am going to order

the IP6 as you advised, since I think we need to get his body calcium

down. Also, I checked in Andy's books, and he does say that calcium

also causes the body to retain copper, and my son has super high

copper. My questions are:

1. How much IP6 do you give?

2. When do you give it? Away from other minerals, since it is a

" demineralizer " ?

3.Can it be given during chelation? Or does this cause too much of a

loss of minerals? (we chelate with DMSA also, or can we just

compensate for it with additional mineral supplementation?) Or should

you give it only off round?

4. How long do you use it to clear excess body calcium? How can one

tell when the IP6 has done its job in other words?

5. When can you reintroduce calcium? Not at the same time as using the

IP6, right?

6. Also, from what I have read in the archives and in Andy's books, it

sounds like my son will need the vitamin K too for calcium absorption,

(He may well have a deficiency of vitamin K. I notice he bruises

easily, and he suffers from chronic diarrhea, and we have a family

history of bowel diseases like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis) - what

is a good dosage to start at? Do you stick to the RDA of 10 mcg for a

3 year old, or can you go higher? Is there a specific ration of K to

calcium? I know with calcium to mag, it is like 2:1.

7. Also, I have read that the synthetic form of K is the one that

easily leads to toxicity, but the natural form does not have this

issue as readily - is vitamin K2 the natural form? Again, how much do

you supplement and do you give it simultaneously with the calcium and mag?

8. Can I supplement with the vitamin D meanwhile, while figuring the

calcium issue out, the two are not interrelated are they?

Thank you for clarifying this issue for me, Dana. I would have never

figured out that the calcium supp could actually be causing a problem

rather than addressing a deficiency. We all have you and Andy's books,

how did you ever figure this out on your own?

Yes, giving a calcium supp to my son would have caused this problem.

> 1. How much IP6 do you give?

Start low. I have a vague memory that the capsules I used were 800mg.

Start with 1/4 of that.

Yes, away from minerals.

I don't know if it matters, especially if you are supplementing other

minerals.

I used it for 4 months. I knew 100% when my son no longer needed it,

because I gave him a dose and his behavior became VERY oppositional.

Then I gave him a dose of a multi-mineral and he was fine.

I never reintroduced a calcium supplement. Once I was done with IP6,

I made sure I was giving him the nutrients that calcium requires for

proper absorption [for my son, magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin K,

lysine]. At that point I was able to give him calcium foods. Also at

about this time, my son started craving foods that contained nutrition

he was lacking. So he would eat string cheese, for example, when he

sensed he needed calcium.

I have 100mcg tablets. I gave one per day for a while, then went to

one every other day.

I think I have read that most people recommend K2, but I never had

problems using regular K from my health food store.

You can give vitamin D by itself, if you want.

> how did you ever figure this out on your own?

I added supps one at a time, and removed/re-added occasionally. Every

time I gave a calcium supp, my son became VERY hyper and had other

problems.
