And depending on what stage of adrenal stress a person was experiencing, might be helpful or harmful. During the intial stages of stress, sodium is very helpful. If it's the second stage of stress, potassium is needed and giving this much excess sodium could be disastrous. So unless you're aware of which stage you are dealing with, if you give this much salt, I'd make sure you were also giving lots of potassium in the form of food (tons of fruits, vegetables and dairy contain potassium) and supplements even, always with food, to avoid an electrolyte imbalance. I took up to 2 or maybe 3 tablespoons a day. I really don't know how much my youngest son took. He has a lower need for salt than we do because I and my oldest son have a form of cystic fibrosis and my youngest son is only a carrier, but my youngest son had the biggest problem with hypotonia. I really didn't pay any attention to how long it took to go away. I was focused more on my own health crisis, which was very serious and life-threatening. I just know it did go away and my youngest doesn't take very many supplements. Of the three of us, we do the least intervention for him because he has never been as ill as his brother or I. So sea salt is one of the few things he does to address his issues. My sons were happy to put sea salt in their hand or on a plate, lick it up and wash it down with water. Then we gradually began cooking with it. We go through a lot less sea salt now than we did two years ago. We found that it absorbs best when we also get the right healthy fats and either carbs or glyconutrients. I have needed the most intervention in that regard and it hasn't been a big issue for my youngest son. There are some recipes on my website, including yeast-free pizza and some of the carb-fat-sea salt things I do: http://healthgazelle.org/combiningseasaltcarbsandhealthyfats.shtml http://healthgazelle.org/recipes.shtml I recently began making Mjeddrah with sea salt and organic rice. I haven't made Mjeddrah in years. I have been eating it like crazy. It has been pushing my healing process. Here's a recipe (and I believe it is the same recipe I got out of " Diet for a Small Planet " years ago): http://www.recipesource.com/special-diets/vegetarian/00/rec0055.html I use it to stuff pita bread for sandwiches, or fill taco shells or just eat with hearty crackers or corn chips. It's traditionally served with brown bread and a salad with some special salad dressing (that I made once, eons ago, and didn't care for). HTH.
