Guest guest
My son is very reactive to soy - IGg allergy, courtesy of the soy formula our ped put our son on at 11 weeks when he developed chronic diarrhea, instead of course we lived with chronic constipation - Anyway, I posted here about vit E, and I gave the soy containing stuff a try, because it had only soy oil but no soy proteins, and my son tolerates the CLO with the small amount of vit e from refined soybean oil. Gave a high gamma mixed tocopherol that was recommended here for three days, after 3 days he developed bad eczema and diarrhea, just like when he was a baby. So I stopped that and waited a couple of days, then I tried the Unique E formula from A.C. Grace co., which they said they remove all soy oil and soy proteins from, and they claim is gluten free. I gave it this am. He was fine during school, and then like all IGg allergies, after school all hell broke loose. He has eczema all over his body and is an insane, crazy maniac, running and yelling unintelligibly. I am going nuts, it is like pre biomed all over again. I forgot how terrible those days were... What do I do? Should I try giving him the synthetic stuff from Kirkman, the acetate? This has nothing whatsoever to do with soybeans, right? It is supposed to be gfcf too. What is this then, something made in the lab? Also, what to do now? I gave him an epsom salt bath. Hopefully by tomorrow it will pass. I don't have charcoal on hand, I do have alka seltzer gold, but I can't get him to take it... Should I wait a day and get his system back to normal before trying the synthetic stuff? Is anyone intolerant to the synthetic? If he can't tolerate that, I guess he just is not meant to have the vitamin e. I haven't added anything to his regimen for so long, and now this. I feel so bad that I inadvertently did this to him. Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Irene
Guest guest
Irene My nt food allergy child is so allergic to soy. I'm haven't even tried vit e, too scared. Have you tried any flax seed like just in baked goods? Has he tolerated that? I'm even scared to try that! I myself would let his body settle for a couple days, get the skin clear and go from there. My sons shows on his skin first but as he's gotten older, he's just 6, it is cold like symptoms. We even have spice issues that I haven't figured out, gurrrrr. Please post if you have any luck with any e vit working. I'd be so interested! We haven't had any reactions for a year or so, but Benadryl always does the trick here. I see Kirkman has a hypoallergenic (I think) charcoal I should really get next time. I get all my sons probiotics and vitamins with Kirkman and he does great with their products. Best of luck, I feel for ya! Guest guest
Irene, CRUD!! So sorry he reacted this way. If it were me, I would wait at least at week or two before trying again with the synthetic Vit E. Let his system settle down, get the eczema gone etc. before trying it again. I honestly don't know if the problem is the soy or if his body can't tolerate/absorb or ??? the Vitamin E. We had behavior issues initially with Vit E, but not physical problems. Here is info on Vit E that includes food sources. http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminE/ Anyway, if he can't tolerate the synthetic, you might have to just try to work in some more Vit E food sources or just let it go for a while. Guest guest
If it were me, I would wipe his skin down with either peroxide or diet tonic water (or both), possibly also wipe it down with coconut oil (spot test first) and have him take a warm bath, possibly with salt in it, to try to get as much of it out of his skin as possible. Skin is the largest human organ and a major pathway for dumping stuff when the system is overwhelmed. Then I would do stuff to try to flush it from his gut once he is calm enough to try to cooperate. If he tolerates rice, I might see if he would eat some rice. I have begun to suspect that one of the reasons that rice can cause constipation is because it absorbs things in the system. I have been eating rice here lately and have had constipation of a type I ONLY get from drugs. I have concluded the rice is drawing old drug residues from my system. Other gut cleansers: lots of water/fluids, coconut oil taken orally (either as a supplement or used in cooking), sea salt, gelatin might help (pour boiling hot water in a cup, add a packet of plain gelatin and stir vigorously, add cold juice to cool it off and flavor it, drink rapidly) and glycontutrients if you have them. What do I do? I would give activated charcoal to try to minimize the effets. >>Should I try giving him the > synthetic stuff from Kirkman, the acetate? After he settles down, maybe after a week or so, you can try that. So far as I know, it does not contain soy, but you can call Kirkman and ask. Guest guest
Hi Irene, Dana is right, charcoal is the best way to go immediately after an infraction/bad reaction ASAP. I'm so sorry you're going through this, my son has very sensitive soy allergies too (cannot tolerate soy lethicin even). We use a product called Toco-Sorb by Jarrow. Maybe you could try that after things calm down. My son seems to tolerate it fine. Anyone else use Toco- Sorb? > > My son is very reactive to soy - IGg allergy, courtesy of the soy formula our ped put our > son on at 11 weeks when he developed chronic diarrhea, instead of course we lived with > chronic constipation - Anyway, I posted here about vit E, and I gave the soy containing > stuff a try, because it had only soy oil but no soy proteins, and my son tolerates the CLO > with the small amount of vit e from refined soybean oil. Guest guest
Thanks to all who posted with advice. Today, my son awoke and was seemingly normal, still with the eczema, and his appetite is off a bit though. I put some natural cream on his skin. This is the one thing I noticed after 7 rounds of chelation, a dietary infraction results in one day of hell, instead of 4 to 7 days of hell. Hopefully, as we move on with chelation, the food sensitivities will lessen even more. Soy is the worst offender, then gluten, hence the trouble with the vit e. My gut told me the natural e was going to be a problem. Don't know why we get away with the CLO though, maybe because the e is so low, and such a small portion. Can't figure it out. I will leave his supps alone for a couple of weeks, then try the synthetic e. If that doesn't work, then I will try to give him some food sources of it,that will have to do, then I will continue on with the other missing supps of the mito cocktail - coQ10 and l carnitine. Both formulations of those I have are completely, gfcf, sf. Again, thanks for the help. And a word of caution for those with soy allergy, when supplementing with e, just go a lot lower and slower than I did, and see how your child reacts, before continuing with the vit e supplementation.
