Guest guest
Hi , Comments interspersed. S S New to group - Chelation Question Posted by: " lasbirdie " birdies@... lasbirdie Tue Sep 9, 2008 7:46 am (PDT) Hi everyone, Juat wondering we are considering chelation with our almost 7 year old ASD son. What method seems to be most successful or is as usual different for every child? *Oral DMSA, oral ALA, low and slow (Andy's protocol). Do a lot of group members follow the Andy Cutler protocol? *Nearly all the successful ones do. Dana is an exception and well-respected on the list. What about challenge tests are they dangerous? *Yes, they're a hgih single dose of chelator which pushes mercury into the brain. They don't provide particularly useful info, either. Our Doctor has suggested ca - EDTA via IV. *Run, don't walk away fromt his doc. He or she doesn't understand chelation for heavy metals and will make your child worse. Unfortunately, your doc is not alone, many don't understand it. Many of us on this list chelate on our own. I have so many questions not sure where to start. *Start by reading the FAQs of this list and getting a DDI hair element hair test and applying counting rules or posting so we can help. Get rid of any mercury thermometers you have in your house and find a mercury-free dentist. If the person to be chelated has any mercury amalgam dental fillings they'll have to be safely removed before chelation. Reduce/remove sources of exposure. Check www.danasview.net/metals for sources of exposure. Any thoughts comments suggestion? I believe there are variations among individual children, altho most tend to well with low dose and conservative protocol. >>Do a lot of group members follow the Andy > Cutler protocol? Most of the members of this group, at least the ones who post frequently, use that protocol. I used something different. > What about challenge tests are they dangerous? Some people believe so, yes. It also depends on exactly what type of challenge test you are doing. Sometimes a doctor recommends a low dose and basically a " round " . Other times a single high dose is recommended. And then there are variations of both of these. A hair test is non-invasive and gives good info http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/HOW_TO_hair_test.html > Our Doctor has suggested ca - EDTA via IV. I would not do IV unless all other protocols were tried and for whatever reason were unsuccessful or not tolerated. > I have so many questions not sure where to start. You are starting by asking questions, which is good. The files of this site are good. You can also browse my site section http://www.danasview.net/parent3.htm#chelation Dana
Guest guest
Welcome , A lot here use Cutler protocol, but not all. Challenge tests are not only dangerous, their results really don't tell you anything. EDTA is also a bad idea for anyone mercury toxic. My study of EDTA showed it is only useful for artery blockage, and there are even better options there. A lot of your questions may be answered already in the files section. There is a lot to learn, and you are in a good place for it. Ask what you can't find answers for. Andy's site - http://www.noamalgam.com is helpful, as are his books Amalgam Illness and Hair Test Interpretation. Have you done a hair test? The DDI hair test with Andy's counting rules applied is a good way to know if mercury is an issue. It will also be good to know if lead is an issue. Get familiar with the different chelators and what they do. ALA and DMSA are available without prescription, and are what most here use with the Cutler protocol. Low dosing is important, as is dosing on the half life. 1/8 - 1/4 mg per pound of body weight dosed every 3-4 hours (3 for ALA, 4 for DMSA) for 72 hours, then a break. Make sure you have removed all sources of exposure, and that there are no mercury/amalgam fillings in teeth. Those are the silver ones. You should not chelate until fillings are removed safely and you observe a waiting period. Again, welcome, and feel free to ask questions.
