Guest guest
We are considering giving the B12 injections so I am really interested in hearing people's stories about good OR bad effects from the injections. I have the syringes in my refrigerator and am planning to start in 2 weeks. I was told that it could jump start his language which is the most concerning thing at this point for him developmentally. There is very limited sound production. My son started folinic acid 4 days ago and I think there is a mild improvement in his receptive language already and he is spontaneously laughing more frequently at silly/funny things throughout the day. I am crossing my fingers that this is helpful to him. I read that folinic acid deficiencies may be linked to depression (and other psychiatric conditions) so I find it interesting that he is laughing more since starting this med. Anyone have experience with giving folinic acid via injection? And if so, what is the pro or con? My son has severe GI dysfunction (eosinophillic duodenitis) so the thought is that giving the injections and not involving the gut (which we are trying to heal) is perhaps the best approach and may help with better absorption of the B12 and folinic acid. Any thoughts? Anyone have experience with Metafolin? We ran out just before Thanksgiving and the pharmacy couldn't get them to us until yesterday so he ended up being off for the last week. I noticed a little regression but I had forgotten how spacey he was when he first started on the shots. I got a reminder this morning. He was such a space cadet. I had to tell him to do things using short sentences and much repetition. These shots are so amazing for him, though, even with that small side effect. Because his progress was somewhat subtle, I hadn't realized how quickly I had come to rely on his receptive language being so much higher while on the shots. As an aside for anyone thinking about doing the shots but afraid of giving them or causing their children pain. I took one of the shots early on and I couldn't really call the feeling pain - it was more of a mosquito bite and a mild one at that. We started this whole thing with emla cream and sneaking at night but these days, I just pull out the shot and my kiddo pulls his pants down, he watches me give it and then he pulls his pants back on and continues on his way - he doesn't even rub it.
