Guest guest
Ok. Here's the story. We are on round 4 of DMSA chelation. Started the first week at 1/8 mg per lb, my son did great. Next round we went up to 1/4 mg per lb. He did even better. No negatives, good appetite, better bowels, cognition etc. Round 3, after posting and getting an answer from Andy that it would be ok to go up to 1/2 mg per lb, if DMSA was being well tolerated, we did just that. He seemed to do fine at 1/2 mg per lb. In the 11 days afterwards, we had some bowel issues, that I recognized as build up of bacteria from using antifungals too much when yeat was under control. So we eased off of the antifungals. My son's appetite had started to decline, and the pre-chelation picky eater started to return. This weekend we started round 4 at 1/2 mg per lb. Cognitively he is doing awesome, lots of speech, some simple sentences. Very affectionate. But the bowels are a mess. Bad constipation now, and won't eat anything, its like everything tastes bad. So, I'm thinking, constipation, and an apparent desire for carbs only, yeast is back, right? The taste aversion, could this be zinc depletion by the DMSA? We supplement with 16mg in the Brainchild multi and then an additional 20mg at night. So about 36 mg per day. He weighs 31 lbs. Is this not enough? Should I try to supplement more? Before biomed, he used to always be like this with food, after supplementing zinc, this went away. My last question, is the 1/2 mg per lb too much from a gut perspective? Should we go down to 1/4 or somewhere in between 1/4 and 1/2 mg per lb? The cognitive gains are great and from that perspective the DMSA at 1/2 mg per lb is very effective. But we don't want to cause out of control yeast problems. Or should we just up the antifungal protocol? Its hard to balance the use of antifungals, and not overuse them, causing other problems. What to do? Any advice from you veterans of chelation? Are these side effects an indication that we increased the dose too quickly? Or can the yeast be managed? Thanks.
