Guest guest Posted July 1, 2010 Report Share Posted July 1, 2010 Dear Friends *Bangalore is celebrating the first anniversary of the historic Naz Foundation decision that decriminalised homosexuality in India with 2 public events that will be organised on July 1st (Thursday) and July 2nd (Friday), 2010.* The first of these events is * " Freedom Song " ,* an evening of (singing) performances featuring Philadelphia based singer Fatimah Loren, along with Bangalore based singers Sumathy Murthy and Akkai, and the Lesbit troupe. Fatimah Loren sings a sophisticated blend of jazz, folk, and blues with a unique, soulful voice. Her passion creates the framework for her artistry, and her deeply emotional, vibrant performances take audiences on a journey through the struggle for freedom and human connection. This event is being co-organised by Good As You, We’re Here and Queer (WHAQ), Swabhava and Lesbit. Entry is free. —— On July 2nd, 2010, the Campaign for Sexual Minorities Rights (CSMR) is celebrating the *“Festival of Freedom”,* an event that we are celebrating to mark the First Anniversary of the historic Naz Foundation judgement, which decriminalised homosexuality in India. Date: *Friday, July 2nd * Time: *4pm – 7pm*. Venue: *Senate Hall *(Central College Campus, near Mysore Bank Circle) The event will feature speeches by invited guests, testimonies from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons from across Karnataka, with dance and music. Guest speakers include Prema Cariappa (ex-Mayor, ex MP and Chairperson of the Central Social Welfare Board; B.T. Lalitha Naik (former Minister and consumer rights activist), Arundhati Nag (actress, and founder, Rangashankara ) and Bangegere Jaya prakash (writer, The event will also witness the launch of the book “The Truth About Me ” by writer, actor and activist A. Revathy. “The Truth About Me” is the unflinchingly courageous and moving autobiography of a hijra who fought ridicule, persecution and violence both within her home and outside to find a life of dignity. *Please try and make it for this event and bring along rainbow paraphernalia, friends, family and supporters.
