Re: New edition of Bill Shaw's book available!

Hi Andy,

I have a question about some of the content that's found in the 2002

edition of Shaw's book that you mention below.

Sometimes you suggest taking lysine and argine together to stimulate

growth hormone, boost the immune system, heal the gut, etc.

However, in Shaw's book he talks about how the aldehyde group of

arabinose reacts with lysine, and how that combined molecule can form

cross-links to arginine to form pentosidine. The pentosidine can then

do all manner of nasty stuff to various body systems including

demyeliniation of the brain. [i think that same process is suspected

to help cause Alzheimer's.]

Is pentosidine formation indeed a possible harmful side effect of

taking arginine and lysine together? I realize that taking biotin and

B-6 (when possible) could help mediate this, but worry that we're

doing a very wrong thing in our recent addition of arginine + lysine

to our son's diet.

Many thanks in advance for any enlightenment you can offer there.

I would love to hear Andy's answer. I would note that arginine and

lysine are both present in eggs, meat, etc.

I don't think this happens at a significant rate under physiologically relevant

conditions.

Andy,

I am on the website noamalgam.com and trying to order 2 books.  If I am ordering

from that website with PayPal how cn I order 2 books at one time with one

shipping cost?  I can only get it to allow me to order one book at a time.

Thanks,

Kelley

BIll Shaw has a new 2008 edition of his book Biological Treatments for Autism

and PDD

out finally.

Which means all those people who have had it on back-order with me will be

seeing it in

the next few days.

Anyone interested in getting it can do so at

www.noamalgam. com/biologicaltr eatments. html

I just got a shipment of it today, the web page isn't entirely up to date yet.

What you'll get

is the 2008 edition.

Sorry but why?

If arginine + lysine can presumably contribute to good processes

(increased growth hormones, etc - mentioned below) in the body in the

amounts suggested, then why couldn't they also contribute to bad

processes like pentosidine formation?

How can the pentosidine be measured? There should be a way of finding

out if you're right.

More immediately though, shouldn't we err on the side of caution here?

Goodness knows that arabinose is common in these kids. Also Shaw's

suggestion that brains affected by Alzheimer's and autism show similar

effects so the possibility of that being due to pentosidine seems

pretty plausible.

There are a lot of good arguments out there, but without some

studies/science to go on, it's hard to know which to believe in.

Thanks.

Andy,

I still could not order 2 books.  I ordered them separately.  Could you please

combine shipping?

Thanks,

Sorry, but this posting has ticked me off for months and deserves some coherent

followup which I think I'm finally calm enough to do now...
