Some districts try to call these very barbaric 'rooms' as being a

'seclusion' room..which is against the law already..or if it's done

right it can be a Sensory room..which our kids need sometimes..but

Seclusion...isn't that just asking for trouble.. plus it's a lie.

To call these rooms seclusion rooms is an understatement. Imagine if

I put you in a dark closet and closed

the door, and there's no windows (or like usual they are blocked), no

ventilation, and possibly a door locked

or even bolted from the outside. Now .. it would be great to just

imagine these things.. but it isn't great and

it isn't imagined. In the past 12 years as an Educational Advocate

and Reg. Civil Rights Lobbyist I have found:

* 1 child I represented that was in an Illegal Time out room died by

seizure because nobody was watching and there was no window.

* Another child I represented QUIT TALKING at age 6, with no other

excuse except 'trauma'...2 yrs later I got an email she was talking again

* Another child I represented was left alone in the dark and picked at

his body and went to the bathroom #1 and 2, and came home and then

was taken to a local hospital... no charges were filed at that time

but after I got involved and closed 6 more of those rooms there - they

charged him

* Another child I represented that was kept in an illegal time out

room tore his shirt off and used it to go #2.. and was sent home with

no shirt, he was verbal and explained what happened to his mother..who

then called me.

* Another child i represented that was put in an illegal time out room

was found by an aide strapped to a chair with the teachers belt.. I

ended up getting charged on that one..but case was dismissed

(Disturbing the peace).

* Another child I represented that was continually put in a time out

room was having a serious problem with heavy sweats when he came home,

he is verbal and told his mother who then called me - I went to the

school and found that the furnace was in the same room, with no

ducting on the pipes coming in our out.. I went in there and stayed

for 20 mins.. i had to get out but they offered to turn it into a

closet.. I was drenched with sweat. So this parent did not have to go

to anymore appts...and the child no longer had sweating problems...

This went wild as other parents through a fit and someone called the

cops..so they took me.

thats how it is.. so vote to change it.. or it will stay the same.

Don't let this happen to my son, your friends son, or your own

son/daughter.

Just being put in those rooms causes psychological damage and

sometimes will reinforce the maladaptive behavior as the child will

either like the pressure of the restraint..or like the padded walls

that are in 'quasi' acceptable Time Out Rooms...Lets just end it

NOW...we must send a loud and clear message to our country's leader.

Pres. Elect. Obama has shown care in this area and is aware of the

problems facing us parents...Lets send him a message that we will NOT

allow Time Out rooms At All. Register and vote at the below link. I

humbly thank you. -
