What a good question -  my girls and I will get the hiccups also - it goes in

waves - seems like they will get them for two days straight and then nothing for

weeks........interesting...could it be part of a herx?  I never really thought

about it but I know when I or one of the girls gets them it just takes over for

days..............

Subject: [ ] Hiccups

Hello, i wasn't sure if anyone could help me, but I just wanted to know if

anyone else has trouble with hiccups? This is the fourth time today (it's only

1:45) that I've gotten hiccups. I know I just started a whole new slue of

medicines this week, but that was only a few days ago, so i'm unsure whether

this is something related to Lyme or not. I usually get this way when I'm on

treatment with Lyme. the hiccups can't voluntarily be stopped by drinking water

or holding my breath, they just come and go as they please. it doesn't seem

anything triggers them.... any ideas? anyone else have lots of hiccups? could it

be Lyme? could it be a reaction so soon to the med.s i started 3 days ago? I

know they've started since i got back on med.s..... Thanks!

ya, thats the same sort of deal with me, I'm curious if more people have this

and don't realize it. i definitely get it in waves, but its more like a week

i'll get them bad, and then they subside for a few weeks....

No idea about possible Lyme connections, but I do have a great hiccup cure

that's never failed me:

1. Get a big glass of water (12 oz or more)

2. With one hand, gently grasp the sides of the throat, with the middle

fingertip over the carotid artery on one side, and the thumb over the same

artery on the other side. (Your larynx should be comfortably in the middle of

this grasp.) Squeeze gently -- you're not cutting off circulation, but rather

slowing down a nerve that runs through the same area.

3. Take a deep breath, and swallow at least 10 gulps of water without stopping

or breathing (they can be small gulps -- it's the gulping action that's

important here) while continuously squeezing the points on the throat.

There may be another hic or two, but it should go away after that. If it

doesn't, repeat; I've never had a second pass at this fail to do the job.

Allegedly, this resets the nerves that control the synchronization between your

digestive tract and your breathing.

I've heard that hiccups can be due to stomach being too akaline. Or was it

acidic? Sorry, I don't have time to try to find any info on this right

now. No idea if it's true!
