Guest guest
If this is liquid nystatin, that contains artificial flavors, colors and aluminum. All of which were problems for my son. We used gse instead. I am not sure why your DAN is rotating the antifungals. We used gse itself alternating with probiotics without any issues and did not have to change antifungals. Anyone else seen a protocol like this? > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > around that I can go to. Here is the yeast protocol he prescribed... Guest guest
I don't think I've heard anyone else report this, but Uva Ursi caused a negative reaction with our 4 yr old. It caused him to retreat into himself a lot more. I am not saying don't use it, because I know many do without bad reactions. I would just keep an eye on it. Guest guest
How high is his yeast? I am new to all of this too. We have a bad yeast problem but we are not doing anything like this. We are just doing diflucan one time daily. I just decided to have his diflucan compounded at Lee Silby's Compounding pharmacy in Ohio in order to " clean up " the ingredients. It eliminated the aluminum and the red dye 40... but they still flavor it with tangerine or lemon. The con is it's very expensive and Lee Silsby's does not take insurance so you have to pay and wait for reimbursement but I figure if I am going to do a prescription formula this is the best way. Please let us know how this protocol works. I have been thinking of adding GSE on my own as well. Here is the yeast protocol he prescribed.. . I think I am okay with most of the protocol except for Uva Ursi. My son is 2 yrs old. I am scared that it may be hard on his liver/kidney. Week 1 & 2 1/2 cap candex twice a day Nystatin twice a day Week 3 & 4 1/2 cap candex twice a day Caprylic Acid in MCT oil twice a day Uva Ursi twice a day Week 5 & 6 1/2 cap candex twice a day Diflucan 100 mg once a day Week 7 & 8 1/2 cap candex twice a day Formula SF 722 1 twice a day. I have added GSE on my own.
Guest guest
I also forgot to add that our nystain was not compounded, but the regular stuff they give to most everyone's kids. Guest guest
I think this is the first yeast protocol I have seen like this in my three years here. As for GSE it works wonderfully for us. We have not used anything else. So it is a viable option for many. Unless one is allergic to grapefruit. I agree that compounding it is best. Red dye and aluminum do no one any good. Many do not realize that FD & C food colorings are petro based chemicals. The supplement file contains other things that can be used for yeast as well if one did not wish to use nystatin or diflucan. > > From: mywonderbaby <mywonderbaby@...> > Subject: [ ] Please help: Our DAN gave us this yeast protocol > > Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 11:53 PM > > > > > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > around that I can go to. Guest guest
I also don't see the DAN recommend a probiotic. This is a very important part of yeast protocol. I know your using one already, but for those that are new to yeast treatment. It's important to use one four or more hours apart from the antifungals. > > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > > around that I can go to. Guest guest
Really? Very interesting. Definitely a parade. How much are they making selling all those antifungals? I have to say in three years on A-M it's new to me. I am going to double check this right now but I though we were not supposed to rotate antifungals so rapidly as the yeast can become resistant to them if we do. Most of the parents I have talked with including myself use one antifungal along with probiotics. Unless or until that one does not work. So far, cross my fingers...three years with gse and it's still working. > > > > > > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > > > > around that I can go to. Guest guest
I don't know if this helps everyone or not but I searched some of the old posts archived on Onibasu and the consensus was not to rotate antifungals. It creates resistance to them. http://onibasu.com/archives/am/171044.html Andy says basically not to rotate them but to use one and keep using it until the child is detoxed enough that yeast is no longer a problem or it doesn't work. Which one you use will vary of course, depending on what the child tolerates or will take. And what works. Dana (Dana's View) is very knowledgeable on yeast too. Perhaps if she gets time she can post. She used biotin to treat yeast. Many of us chose not to use rx antifungals because they are harder on the liver. http://onibasu.com/archives/am/57461.html That's not to say not to use rx's. Sometimes they are needed. But essentially...no rotating. > > > > > > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > > > > around that I can go to. Here is the yeast protocol he prescribed.. . Definitely a parade. ===>Lol I am going to double check this right now but I though we were not supposed to rotate antifungals so rapidly as the yeast can become resistant to them if we do. ===>That's correct, I've known some to get away with rotating but for others when they rotated they eventually found themselves with NOTHING that worked as the yeast had become resistant to everything, not a good place to be, at all. Better to stick with one or two things until they no longer work and then move on. Most of the parents I have talked with including myself use one antifungal along with probiotics. Unless or until that one does not work. So far, cross my fingers...three years with gse and it's still working. ===>Her yeast quickly became resistant to GSE, but OoO was always effective, highly individual. You're lucky, GSE is inexpensive. > > > > > > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > > > > around that I can go to. Here is the yeast protocol he prescribed.. . Guest guest
yes, thankfully the gse is cheap, because there is no way he'd get near Oil or oregano...I use it sometimes, but he'd never take it. Guest guest
Hey guys --- I am really scared now ! First this MD DAN doctor prescribes Namenda for my 2 year old and then he gives this yeast protocol parade.... I am already a nervous wreck when it comes to all these supplements - you should see my hands literally shaking when I open the caps for my son to mix it in his food. I really suck at biomed stuff so that leaves me not to trust my instincts and thats why I ask too many questions here. What should I do ? Kiddo has lots of yeast. From his ION report, his D-Arabinitol is very high. Can anybody suggest a long term safe yeast protocol ? I really need to fix his yeast issues before moving ahead with chelation. Guest guest
That's exactly the reason why they are rotating, to prevent resistance. I like the GSE also, but others have been successful with the antifungal parade also. I guess we as parents just have to see if things are working. For many kids, you can't entirely eliminate the yeast *until* you chelate, so don't wait until it is " fixed " before you start the chelation. I would recommend you get the yeast " reasonably under control " , and know what works for your child to keep it that way. Dana
Guest guest
Hi, Maya, First, your instincts are probably helping your child just as much as anything. You can trust your instincts, more than any doctor. Second, us parents understand your sense of urgency to help your child. But it's OK to slow down a bit and do research on what you're giving your kid before you give it to him. You may not totally understand the science (I never do), but to understand it enough and talk to enough parents so your hands aren't shaking when you give him his supplements. Your instincts will tell you when you know enough. Also, can you talk to your DAN about your concerns? Our DAN pretty much always compromises with us, unless it is something she insists on, like blood and urine tests. HTH, Maggie d. > > Hey guys --- I am really scared now ! Guest guest
What is the dosage for GSE and Biotin? My 5yr old is having some major yeast issues and probiotics are not enough for him. Guest guest
Probiotics have never been enough on their own for my kid either. We began gse at 1/4 tablet when he was three yrs. At five years maybe 1/2 tablet a day, waiting a few days before adding more. I found that he needs between 1-3 tablets a day depending on how bad the yeast is. Give probiotics four or more hours away from the gse. Don't use gse without probiotics, and stop the gse if the yeast is gone. IF, I say, because that has only happened twice for us, and then we end up back on it. My kid is a yeast machine! Biotin: Dana? She posted the doses a few times and even emailed them to me...but I can't remember...is it 10mg? Check the files " supplement " file..I think it may be in there, or search for " Dana, Biotin " . > > > I somehow dont trust our DAN very well but I dont have that many > > > around that I can go to. Guest guest
I second Dana, we have never entirely rid the yeast, but kept it controlled enough to chelate. Around round 50 I noticed that we don't have to go after yeast as aggressively as we used too. So it's getting more manageable. But...it's not likely to completely get rid of it without chelation. And it will flare up off and on with rounds anyway. So finding that yeast protocol that works for your kid and sticking with it... > > What should I do ? Kiddo has lots of yeast. The most I gave my son was 20mg biotin 3x per day. At the height of the anti-viral protocol, I had to give that dose of biotin together with 2 tablets of GSE [viral die off caused more yeast here than chelation did]. Definitely don't start at 20mg tho. Start lower and work up as required. Dana
