Guest guest
Dear Friends Re: /message/10844 Thanks to Sarita for bringing this incident to light. I felt empathetic about the words used by Subham (sub human, ant or parasite). Because the incident happened in the place, where our Late Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi delivered her last public speech and it is located in front of Orissa secretariat and State assembly and also a citizen looses his dignity because of his sexual orientation. The incident raised the concern of security for a person who wants to relax in the evenings and weekends. How the mischievous persons dare to man-handle another in such a crowded place? Why the Police Control Room van is roaming the city if they don't want to hear a person who is in trouble? What is the deal for the cops with the sexual orientation of the person seeking assistance? What are the equal rights we are talking about, if a person is not feeling secure to live because of his/her sexual orientation? I know Subham since 8 months. He is the person, who had initiated and registered a network for LGBT in Orissa and dreaming for the dignity of those. This incident has come to light because of his courage, commitment and dream to have dignity. There are several other incidents related to Stigma and Discrimination for his fellow beings, which he usually refers to me. (Yet, they were in the dark now). Through this forum, I want to say Subham to mobilize legal aid services available in Orissa for their network to address these issues. Many coalitions, NGOs and individuals will not be there for you at all times (even though I haven't noticed this time also). I, as a PLHIV want to extend my support what ever I can in this regard. Attitudinal changes are far away from having community friendly policies and Judgments. In solidarity K. Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/10844 I am shocked and surprised to read that so called educated and elite people behave in such manners. If a person like Subham is treated like this what must be happening to to hundreds of simple and ignorant(I should not call any body ignorant) including sexual minorities. We are proud to be rich, educated, influential at the same time subhuman, rogue, impotent who utilise every opportunity to harass innocents, weak, harmless and good souls. We feel sorry for Pradyumnas of our society. We are always with people like Subham who fight for justice, existence and live honorably. Madhusmit e-mail: <madhusmit_pati@...>
Guest guest
Dear Friends, Re: /message/10862 Santosh has rightly says that " Attitudinal changes are far away from having community friendly policies and Judgments " . But I disagree with you Santosh, that you have expressed your dissatisfaction by saying, that " many coalitions, NGOs and individuals will not be there for you at all times (even though I haven't noticed this time also). I, as a PLHIV want to extend my support what ever I can in this regard. " Because, on the spot of that evening Subham first telephoned me for assistance but it was not possible on our part to stand before him physically in that crisis period, because I was out of station and other senior staff (Mayadhar Rath, Campaign Coordinator) had serious health problem (ankle injury). So, we could only talk to him over phone and gave him suggestion how to proceed. In fcat, I have given him the police assistance phone number to call up police. But unfortunately, police have responded in a reverse way. Then I talked a lot with Subham (at police station)over phone on that night upto he left the police station, about what to do and how to face the situation. Later on, we planned to have a meeting with all the SAKHA team members either on 15 or 16 October as per their convenience at Sampark's secretariate, SAATHII, Bhubaneswar office, as it is our moral responsibility, and priority to find ways to handle this crisis and to have a discussion on our next course of action for taking advocacy strategy with police and other related stakeholder. So, its my request to you not to be hopeless, as you are also a part of Sampark Coalition, so let's join hands to fight this battle. Regards, Dr. Mitali Mohanty Training and Coalition Coordinator, Orissa, Coalition Based Advocacy Project Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India (SAATHII), Bhubaneswar Field Office Plot No. 35/6, Madhusudan Nagar, Bhubaneswar - 751 001.
