Guest guest
I have an NT kid who loved to play in water..I think all kids do. It's a wonderful sensory experience and usually calming. For us, the only thing that reduced obsessions was chelation over time. I can't say any one supplement got rid of his obessesions or reduced them. He still loves trains though, and likes to play in water. The vacuum fascination wore is gone. He sees that as work now. Anyone else? > > We also have the same problem here, my 7 yr old grandson loves to play > in the sink, and also loves to bath and soak up towels and loves to see > you wipe everything up. > > > he also has a few other things like vacuuming and is quite obsessed > with trains. > We would like to know what might help this. > thanks > Joyce >
Guest guest
Hi, our son goes through several phases of what he is " obsessed " with but it doesn't last. If you think about it, water, the vaccume cleaner, trains...are all really fascinating. Our children are looking at things differently than we are and it is interesting to allow them to teach us. Good ideas to alter the obsession into a learning activity but really, enjoy the unharmful " obsessions " and perhaps we can figure out why they are looking at that item specifically...such smart kids! Guest guest
My son's book of poetry, " Embracing the Sky " , addresses many of these obsessions from his perspective. Guest guest
Hi, Last year at this time we were getting ready to enter my son's phase of being fascinated by flushing stuff - it was the swishing around in the water that he loved. After breaking several toilets (my husband could now be a plumber), we finally were able to switch him into playing with a shallow storage bin of water (under supervision, of course). We put two or three inches of water in it and he puts his toys and animals in. The bucket and the toilet have since gotten somewhat boring for him, but he is still totally a water baby (he is 5). He loves the bath and swimming. As long as he isn't breaking stuff or making a huge mess, it is probably okay. We had freaked out and asked behaviorists, specialists, etc. and it was really just something he liked. FWIW,
Guest guest
INOSITOL. Funny because my son had that water obsession too, and I was actually really scared he would drown when we lived in Hawaii cause he would do anything to run off toward water. As of a few weeks ago, the obsession has turned completely around and now it is that he CANNOT STAND the sound of running water. He says " turn it off! " , or " NO! " , or " Lets get OUTTA HERE! " He doesn't want to take a bath. He's become a bit more reasonable in the last week with the addition of some inositol, letting us take him swimming, but the running water still bugs him.
