My son would chew on things when he was eating something not

tolerated, and when he had a yeast overgrowth issue. For some kids,

it means zinc deficiency.

Do you know of any ZINC good brand [organic/GFCFSF?]

How do you know this is not related to any type of oral sensory , he

starting doing it when he received his 6 month vaccine! but to some

point teething was the only answer i had back then.....well everything

started back then...! [sight]!

Thanks for answering!!!

Well...he is on GFCFSF diet.....and he was tested for food

allergies....Can't think of something else that he is eating and not

be able to tolerate......

I really think is has yeast overgrowth issues b/c of his eye

stimming...and sometimes he would giggle for nothing.....I asked his

pediatrician to test him for yeast overgrowth but came out normal...

My son has been sick with ears infection since he was 5 months

old....and always on antibiotics....that's why i still think he has a

yeast problem.....

I would like to try increasing Zinc for now, what is the appropiate

daily amount?

If the yeast test came out normal, is safe to try GSE?

Thanks!!!!!

if my son weight 37 lbs.....then I should give him 37 times 20 in

milligrams means total of: 740 milligrams of ZINC daily?

Should I give him half in the morning and half at nigh??

Thanks!

Order the DDI (Doctor's Data Inc.) hair elements test through DLS (Direct Lab

Services) http://www.directlabs.com/. You don't need a doc to order it. If you

mention this list they'll give you a discount. The counting rules were

specifically created for this test, not ones from other labs.

Tests are only 80% accurate. And if this was only an " allergy " test,

it would not have tested for intolerances, so the test might be less

accurate than 80%.

If yeast is in other areas of the body and not the GI tract, the test

may come out as " normal " when in fact he still has a yeast problem.

> I would like to try increasing Zinc for now, what is the appropiate

The usual maximum dose is child's weight plus 20mg.

> If the yeast test came out normal, is safe to try GSE?

I would use biotin instead of GSE, if you are not sure, but you can

start with one drop GSE, see if that does anything.

Hi Dana!

I opened my eyes so big when I saw the word intolerances!!!

How can you tell when a child doesn't tolarate certain food?

Dana....

this is what I want to do next with my son:

* Hair test!!!

* Continue GFCFSF [i must check & learn so I can discover his

intolerances]

* I'm changing vitamins brand to Super Nu Thera Power Hypoallergenic

[he was on a different brand of vitamins....don't see any improve!]

* see if this new brand do something with is " metal liking issues " if

not i will increase ZINC.

* work on the yeast battle! will start with biotin [because I'm not

sure] how much of biotin can I give to my child [he weights 38 lbs.- 3

yrs old].........is Biotin a mild way to fight yeast??

Thanks for your help!!!!!! This is so important for me, I need to help

my little boy to talk and keep his skills!

You need to put him on probiotics before you can use gse or anti yeast

stuff. Acidophilus that contains 3 billion or more strains and is

refrigerated or stabilized is best to use. He'd need that at least

once a day. Since he is casein free you need to find a probiotic

product that is not made from milk. There are some on iherb.com, and

Kirkman I think also sells some made without dairy.

With the history of ear infection and antibotic use...I would think

yeast is a problem too. In my house ear infections are caused by yeast

and we treat them with probiotics and gse. So your on the right path.

He needs the probiotics first for two weeks before trying the gse.

Zinc, what is his weight? In younger children you can dose at weight

plus 20mg. My metal chewing child was 40 pounds took 60mg a day.

Kirkman should have zinc that meets your requirements. I knew it was

not sensory for my son because he stopped doing it when I put him on

the zinc. If we stopped his zinc he went back to chewing everything.

He of course mouthed and chewed in infancy, but he continued to do

this until he was 3 years old, at which point we did a hair test and

found him toxic. He had high levels of lead and low zinc on his blood

test. We put him on zinc...it stopped it.

My son did have sensory problems, including oral sensory, but those

involved rejecting foods, medicines, textures, gagging, etc. The

excessive chewing or biting/licking of non food stuff...(also known as

Pica...seems to be related to lead in some children...lead causes zinc

deficiency)

Try it, and if it does not help it all...then you can say that maybe

it's sensory. But the fact that he chews metals indicates a mineral

deficiency. If it were sensory..he's bite everything..or certain

fabrics or textured items....

Sometimes physical issues, sometimes behavior issues, sometimes both.

Depends on your definition of " mild " , but it is what the body uses

naturally to control yeast.

I started with 400mcg and worked up as required.
