Guest guest
My MIL who is staying with us put the turkey in the oven with the meat thermometer in the turkey It's not an oven-proof thermometer and now the plastic cover of the thermometer is melted and the thermometer no longer works! My worry is obviously mercury, but I have no idea about the content of these particular thermometers. It's got a stainless steel rod and is an instant read model from Norpro and it looks just like this one: http://www.amazon.com/NorPro-Thermometer-Instant-Read/dp/B000HMFTF2/ref=sr_1_16?\ ie=UTF8 & s=kitchen & qid=1230217008 & sr=1-16 I've been searching for a while but can't find the content of this particular type of thermometer. I'm hoping that someone is online today that knows something about this & can offer (hopefully good) advice. Has anyone ever looked into this? What's normally used in these stainless steel quick-read thermometers? We have guests coming for dinner in a couple of hours! Merry Christmas everyone. Guest guest
This device is a thermocouple, not a thermometer (despite what the package says) T.J Seebeck discovered in the 1820s that an electric current flows in a closed circuit of two dissimilar metals when one of the two junctions is heated with respect to the other. I recommend that you eat the Turkey --penumbra
