Neurontin - How long until we know if it is going to work for us?

My two boys have been put on Neurontin for possible seizures in the parietal

lobe that may be why they have not acquired speech.  They are building up a

little at a time.  How long until we know if this medication is going to be

effective for them?  If it does not work, do we taper back down?
