Guest guest
Dear Friends and Colleagues, On behalf of the UNAIDS family we are proud to announce the call for nominations for the biennial Red Ribbon Award: Celebrating Community Leadership and Action on AIDS. This international award will honour exceptional grassroots leadership in responding to the AIDS epidemic and will be presented at the XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) to be held in Vienna, Austria, July 18 - 23, 2010. Once again, twenty-five community organisations will be selected through a community-led process for their exceptional contribution in addressing HIV. The winners will be invited to attend AIDS 2010 where they will have an opportunity to showcase their work and engage global policy leaders. All 25 community organisations will receive $5,000 each. Five organisations will receive special recognition and an additional $15,000. Nomination information and criteria can be found on our new website www.redribbonaward.org <http://www.redribbonaward.org/> and we encourage all to participate in the nomination process. The award is a joint effort of the UNAIDS family and as such this year it will place particular emphasis on the organisation's newly approved global priority areas of action. In this context, this year's award will be given to organisations whose work places particular emphasis on the following categories: 1. Ensuring that people living with HIV receive treatment 2. Supporting HIV prevention, treatment and care programmes for people who use drugs 3. Removing punitive policies and laws, stigma and discrimination that block effective AIDS responses and marginalise key populations (men who have sex with men, transgender people, sex workers and prisoners) 4. Sopping violence against women and girls and promote gender equality 5. Enhancing social support for those affected by HIV, including orphans and vulnerable children In line with the global efforts to support cross-sectoral strategies that address HIV as well as other Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a special recognition Award will be presented to an organisation whose cross-cutting approach jointly addresses AIDS and the MDGs at the community level. We call for your support in nominating a group you know and extending this call for nominations through your important networks at country or regional level. You will be helping us support the pivotal work of many community organisations around the world whose leadership is paving the way in the response to AIDS. Warm regards, O'Malley, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), New York. --------------------------- A.SANKAR Executive Director- EMPOWER - Professional Civil Society Organisation Vice Chairman -Initiatives of HIV/AIDS Net (IHN) National Convener- National Alliance for Health, Environment and Rights (NAFHER) 107J / 133E, puram TUTICORIN-628 008, TN, INDIA Telefax: 91 461 2310151; Mobile: 91 94431 48599: www.empowerindia.org e-mail: <ttn_empower@...>
