Guest guest
Eliz, What I know about late puberty comes from having a sister as well as a friend who both experienced late blooming, breasts and menses... My sister has five boys, and is now miserably menopausal with migraines! My close friend was never able to have children, just turned 60, and JUST quit menstruating! She has enjoyed excellent health for the most part. My son has IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). Late puberty is quite common among IBD kids (and, conversely, some of them have precocious puberty and some are possibly borderline ASD). We assume the late development comes from malabsorption of nutrients, so development can't take place timely. IBD kids have crazy hormonal profiles, mostly deficient in minerals and hormones! They're lacking in DHEA, Vitamin D, growth hormone, magnesium, zinc. Ummnn. Duh, what does that tell you? Some parents struggle with whether or not to put their very short children on growth hormones. Zinc deficiency may be related to short stature. Lotsa studies on that! One of the IBD kids I know of was 16 and had not entered puberty. He was one of a number of people who received autologous stem cell transplant for Crohns. One of the many interesting results from the stem cell transplant was that he went through puberty - like literally overnight - just a very few days/a couple of weeks. He also grew in height. Can't remember where he started, I think about 5'6 " , but grew quickly to well over 6'. Another interesting thing about the SCT was that he retained innate immunity to measles and some things, but had NO immunity from the vaccines. The chemo destroyed so-called vaccine immunity, but not mother-acquired immunity. Also, I remember years back and every time the Olympics roll around about the gymnasts, and how small and underdeveloped they are. I remember something about coaches in some countries who kept the girls on rigid diets that would postpone puberty and development. So my guess is nutritional absorption and environmental toxins are the biggies. Lots of estrogen crap in the environment. Trying to find Balance and Health! -judy from : another question...any ideas on late puberty - when she was younger, my older girl was looking precocious, told (by dr) that she would start menstruating within the year - she was 9ish - ultimately, she ended up starting late, around 15, 16yo...have wondered about this & whether something went right, or more wrong. and have current concerns about my migraine girl - very similar to the ones I have seen here. thanks, elizabeth
