Let’s have a common understanding in certain HIV related terminology

Dear friends,

I felt there should be common understanding among us to use terminology in our

project or activities. I am raising this, because, I have come across many of my

mates with different understanding.

Here,I have stated few of them. please correct me if I have different view and

anticipating to share your experience …

Access to Care and Treatment :

People's View : Anti retro viral therapy (ART) also comes under treatment

My justification : Treatment means an intervention or Drug that should cure

the problem/disease. Here, we say therapy. Because, ART regime helps in reducing

the viral load. As the name describes its only therapy not Treatment.

Stigma and Discrimination :

People's View: Whenever they wanted to mention stigma, They usually add the word

stigma and discrimination ( As two separate things)

My Justification: As Stigma itself covers all major four subtypes 1. Fear of

Infection 2.Judgement and Attitude 3. Enacted (discrimination) 4. Disclosure.

Mentioning stigma would cover all these.
