Best regards, Neha *CONDEMN DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES FOLLOWED AGAINST PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV IN DELHI * Dear friends, The news of Global Arts Village, a popular meeting / consultation venue in Delhi seeking a declaration from Naz Foundation (India ) Trust to not allow participation of “AIDS patients” and people living with HIV in a consultation at the Global Arts Village is deeply shocking and strongly condemnable. Naz Foundation (India) Trust is organizing a two day consultation on care and protection for orphaned and vulnerable children on 7-8 September 2010 at the Global Arts Village. The Foundation has already booked the venue and paid the necessary advance which included participation and stay of participants for residential consultation. The booking was confirmed by Global Arts Village. On 10th August Naz Foundation was telephonically asked by Global Arts Village to submit a written declaration stating that none of the participants were AIDS patients and that they will not be inviting anyone who is HIV positive. When asked, Global Arts Village refused to provide this request in writing citing various excuses. Naz Foundation refused to submit the declaration after which the Global Arts Village informed them that if they did not submit this declaration in writing then the booking would be cancelled. We are shocked at this discrimination against people living with HIV. Such violation of human rights and our policies concerning stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV is not acceptable. *We strongly condemn the discriminatory action by Global Arts Village in Delhi and urge you to join in our protest against such action by endorsing this statement. * In solidarity Gains & Gaps - ICPD +15: A Civil Society Review in India icpd15 secretariat <icpd15sect@...>
