Guest guest Posted December 1, 2009 Report Share Posted December 1, 2009 No government figures on number of children orphaned by AIDS: FXB Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): the FXB India Suraksha has claimed that " to date, there are no government figures in the country on the number of children orphaned by AIDS " ; several research studies suggest that this is nearly 2 million in India. In a press note here stated: " Today India is home to the largest number of AIDS orphans in the world - children who have lost one or both parents to the disease. With widespread migrant labour, high risk behavior, ignorance, etc combined with lack of child-oriented strategies, polices and programmes to address the issue, India is expected to become the next epicenter of the AIDS orphan crisis, " it stated. FXB India Suraksha is a not for profit company, working for the rights of children and their families affected by AIDS and poverty. On May 7 last it organized a state level painting competition under the theme: " My dream " , where one Sakumeren secured the second position and will be receiving his prize on World AIDS Day. It stated that the competition was conducted with a purpose to create awareness and empathy on the plight of children orphaned or affected by AIDS across 15 states of the country. The final selection was done by jury members of the Nav Siddhartha Art group. Moreover, on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2009 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights', FXB India Suraksha in Nagaland will observe World Aids Day along with the rest of the World in collaboration with NNP+, KNP+, NLF –UNAIDS, DAPCO and like minded NGOs and concerned citizens. It claimed that FXB Suraksha Nagaland since its inception in 2006 have been working with orphans and vulnerable.
