New Delhi, 26 Nov 2008: Dr Chinkholal Thangsing, a clinician, activist,

management expert in the field of HIVAIDS, a recipient of Royal Order of

Sahametrei by the Royal Government of Cambodia has been awarded the coveted

‘Karmaveer Puraskaar’ award on the 26th of November 2009 in New Delhi for

his personal and professional outstanding, courageous and inspiring contribution

for the cause of HIVAIDS and for people living with HIVAIDS in India and in the

Asia Pacific region.

The ‘Karmaveer Puraskaar’ the prestigious Annual National Awards for Social

Justice & Citizen Action was awarded today to individuals who have been pivotal

in leading change by working on social issues.

 

The Citation Reads:

Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing, is currently the Asia Pacific Chief for AIDS

Healthcare Foundation and heads programs in India, Cambodia, China, Thailand,

Vietnam and Nepal. He is a clinician, an activist and a management expert who

has been dedicated to his work in the field of HIVAIDS since 1990. He has

dedicated his career, personal life and resources to the fight against HIV/AIDS

and has contributed to the treatment of over 15000 patients in India and Asia

region.

With over 25 years of medical experience, he has been successful in providing

treatment consultations, conducting training workshops, spreading awareness on

HIV management, sensitization and education of healthcare professionals,

provision of ARVs drugs to people living with HIVAIDS. An excellent

communicator, he has immense flair and faith in the quality work that he does

 

KARMAVEER PURASKAAR was created in 2006 by iCONGO Indian Confederation of NGOs

that recognizes individual citizens from various sectors for excellence and best

practices in promoting social justice and action in their sector by  being and

leading the change beyond their personal daily lives and business as usual by

being committed on individual levels to work for social justice issues with

proactive citizen action.

 

The awardees are committed to continue their good work Karma in this generation

and Yug, thus leading the change they want to see and inspiring others to follow

the same. The basic philosophy of the awards is based on Gandhiji’s “Be the

change you want to see in the world†and given to citizens who go beyond being

apathetic and believe in doing their bit for social justice and know that it is

“better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

 

I am deeply humbled and truly honoured by this for being bestowed the

prestigious “Karmaveer Puraskaar 2009â€. This not only recognized my

commitment to the work I do but also highlight the need for such work and also

many fellow citizens - heroes who toil with me and are constant support for me

in  the country and other parts of the world where I work.

I am grateful to my team, my organisation that gave me the opportunity. The

award also is a proof that if one is sincere, compassionately focuses on welfare

of those in needs and be their voices crying in the wilderness, be their light

that shows the pathway, and the hope that generate change - you are never alone.

I am further inspired to work even harder to save more lives and be a greater

instrument of positive change†-Dr Chinkholal Thangsing.
