Attrocious action by a team of medical professionals at Govt. G.H. Pondichery

Dear FORUM,

Atrocious action leaded by a team of medical professionals at ICTC and ART

center at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute,

Pondichery, Tamil nadu, India, results a women lost her entire loving family,

peaceful life and is escaped from suicide attempt as she wrongly diagnosed as

HIV positive and initiated ART by the ART medical officer and admitted in the

hospital for 15 days as In-patient.

This is a case study about Mrs. Suguna Arumugam residing at Kalathumettu Street,

Maanur, Aathur Post, Dhindivanam Tluk, Villupuram and living as joint family.

Her husband is a farmer and are living with two school going children in same.

Mrs. Suguna has been living poor health condition for the past 8 months and

seeking medication by visiting nearer by general medical practitioner often for

general health check-up. So as to take obtain general medication for fever and

cold Suguna visited Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate

Institute, at Pondichery as she was feeling about often get in to the minor

illness.

In hospital, Suguna has Insisted for HIV test and TB test by the medical Doctors

without proper Pretest Counseling and is informed that she is HIV positive in

Post test counseling along with the information about 4 ways of HIV spread. Her

husband also called for HIV test and reported non-reactive.

But, the statement given by the team of medical practitioners was not

acknowledged by Suguna as she believes and follows her own community customs and

values. She also has strong belief on her husband as he loves her very much and

vice versa. Moreover, she is also conforming that has no any previous severe

history of illness for the condition of blood transfusion in any situation.

In spite of, she requested ICTC medical professional in hospital about re-blood

screening, she has insisted for ART and admitted in the hospital for 15 days as

In-patient. Suguna has done only 7th Std., and her understanding ability about

HIV/AIDS also comparatively low.

In this state of affairs, Suguna has been seeking out for recheck-up for HIV

virulent at Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and

Research, Melmaravathur and has conformed that she is Non-Reactive on 4th

November 2009 (copy of record enclosed).

In addition to this herself had a 2nd recheck-up at Rajah Clinical Laboratory,

(Opp. Govt. G.H.), Chengalpattu, on the same day evening around 4:00pm -9:00pm

and received result Negative.

Mean while, she was informed to KNP+ over the phone by the person who belongs to

Rajah Clinical Laboratory about the same above and referred her to KNP+ for

support. When we made a Phone call to Govt. Hospital in Pondichery and received

improper and unprofessional reply from the medical officer and data entry

operator and most important thing was the counselor was not presented in his/her

table during the office hours at morning and the phone number is (0413-2224579).

Because of this above reason Suguna had destitute by her husband and her family

relations and it has known during counseling. A prime component of Psycho

therapy as counseling has given to Mrs. Suguna and her sister in law who came

along with Suguna and made them aware about clear knowledge about disease and

family relationship.

1. The only question is which great intellligenntt medical profession insisted

suguna for ART? And In what basis Suguna was insisted? And

2. Which great intellligenttt medical profession done HIV antibody test? and

3. Which one made Suguna In-Patient?

ART is prescribe by the ART medical officer at hospital only when the infected

person's CD4 level become lower to 350 – 250 depend upon patient physical and

family economic condition. But here, the statement of data entry operator of the

hospital was, Suguna had CD4 level 839 and non-reactive at the time of

hospitalization.

Now we are in deep suspect that how many are being Non-Reactive in the hospital

among infected? and we sure that if it goes on, in future, there will be chance

to destroy many family bondage and relationship .

Passing medical examination is not just like a matter of fact but is a noble

profession and must enable to save not just life but family love, bondage and

relationship.

We openly ask a question, " Will you or any one in your family will accept these

ART medicine (as negative)? If you think it will not affect your physical

condition and soul?

Treating patient is playing with people and another life and family and not just

like playing game within self.
