Guest guest
Hi all, The much awaited UNGASS 2010 Country Progress Report for India is finally online. This is the latest NACO document discussing the HIV epidemic in the country and the headway made Here is the link http://data.unaids.org/pub/Report/2010/india_2010_country_progress_report_en.pdf I am sure the forum would find lot of interesting findings which have implications on the current/future strategies. There is plethora of information from NACO data and BSS 2008-09 which is otherwise not available in the public domain. Top lines below: Epidemic in India " The HIV epidemic in India is entering a new phase where new infections are increasingly occurring within intimate partner sexual relationships " . HIV Prevalence The HIV prevalence in India is reported to have reduced from 0.34 percent in 2007 to 0.29 percent in 2008. The number of PLHIV estimated reduced from 2.31million in 2007 to 2.27 million in 2008 Though there is an overall decline reported in the HIV prevalence among the ANC attendees, an increase is found in some low and moderate prevalent Indian states. Note: The 2008 prevalence and estimates are quoted as provisional estimates in the UNGASS 2010 Report Much more in the report... Look forward to discussions on the report Regards, Benoy Knowledge Management Division Project Connect, Population Services International www.psi.org e-mail: <benoy@...>
