Guest guest
AIDS patient dies unattended in Andhra hospital CNN-IBN Dec 08, 2009 Hyderabad: In a shocking incident an AIDS patient died unattended in the premises of a state-run hospital in Andhra Pradesh. The middle-aged woman's body was also left unclaimed by her relatives. The tragic incident took place at Tirupati's Sri Venkateshwara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital. The woman's dead body was noticed after the members of the voluntary organisation working for AIDS patients in the hospital raised a cry. " When we asked the hospital authorities about it they said such cases keep coming and also we do not know who she was. Once in a year the hospital takes out their publications talking about what they have done for AIDS patients and this is how they treat them. Their attitude towards the patient is very irresponsible, " said Muneeswary, a member of the voluntary organisation. The world observed World AIDS day on December 1 but discrimination faced by patients show no signs of abating. In November 2009 a district hospital staff in Malda had denied treatment to a patient after he was tested positive for HIV. There was a similar case in Murshidabad's Behrampore Sadar Hospital in 2008 where government nurses left an AIDS patient unattened for several days. In 2007 it was a CNN-IBN report which delivered justice to Kritika who was found abandoned in Noida's Satya Hospital when she was only three days old. It was suspected she was HIV positive but medical tests showed she was not infected. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/aids-patient-dies-unattended-in-andhra-hospital/10668\ 2-17.html
