Guest guest
Editors note: Please read the response to the chain letter on AIDS spread linked to the knife wound of the pineapple vender prepared by Chandni Sahai <chandnisahai@...> at the following url. /message/8690 Dear all, Story of pineapple back on My FM Radio Channel on World AIDS Day It was shocking to listen to the pineapple story (discussion on AIDS India Forum - Wed, Apr 16, 2008) on My FM Nagpur Station. While there are efforts to educate people on the myths and mis onceptions and correct knowledge about HIV, public media channels are clearly misleading the people. Nowadays, FM radio stations are become quite popular and the companies operating these stations, should be socially responsible. Also, the way the DJs interacted with the general public on HIV related issues on other channels, they seems to be quite unaware of the issues surrounding HIV, specially relating it to red light area (sex workers) prominently. I wonder, how educated the DJs are, from the other cities. I think, an effort should be made by NACO to educate the media in a big way, on HIV. Although, there are guidelines for print media, nobody seems to be following them. All this, will severely hamper the efforts of the NGOs to correctly educate the people. F.
