Guest guest
HIV Positive Cases Decrease in Kashmir Submitted by Amit Pathania on Tue, 05/04/2010 - 10:01 It was recently told by the National AIDS Control Organization that the number of HIV positive cases in Kashmir valley had been decreasing. " The epidemic AIDS here is under control and Kashmir is the least hit area in the country. Last time we collected 7800 samples from various quarters of the state and none was found positive " , said Dr M A Wani, Director Health Services and Project Director J & K State AIDS Prevention Control Society. It was noted that last time the cases in the alley were 1.2% which has currently come down to 0.3%. It was assumed by NACO experts that 40,000 people would be infected with HIV in next two years, if the killer virus went unchecked. They also assumed that around 20,000 people would be killed in the State by the end of 2015 with this disease. The official statistics showed that 4846 HIV test samples taken in the year 2008 out of which only 3 persons were found positive, whereas in 2009, 4840 samples were taken out of which none was found positive. It was told by the Director that less HIV patients were there and the number was not as big as 2.5 million HIV positive patients found in India. http://topnews.us/content/218932-hiv-positive-cases-decrease-kashmir
