Of the 326 HIV cases reported in 2009-2010, the highest cases, 89, were from the F-north ward, which includes Sion and Matunga. At 68, the second highest number of cases has been recorded from the D-ward, which encompasses areas such as Nana Chowk and Tardeo. These figures were obtained under the RTI Act by NGO Praja Foundation on Tuesday. The data obtained shows of the 24 civic wards, 11 have no HIV cases registered. This includes Kurla (L-ward), which is the unhealthiest ward as per data recorded from the civic dispensaries. S.S.Kudalkar, deputy municipal commissioner and project officer of the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society, said, " HIV comes with a lot of social stigma so people living in one ward will not go to a dispensary in their vicinity. They may get themselves tested elsewhere, so these figures don't make for a trend, " he said. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Maximum-HIV-cases-in-Sion-Matunga-Data/Article1-58\ 5489.aspx
