The project would be carried out jointly by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Registrar General of India (RGI) and Ministry of Home Affairs. The nine states in which this survey would be conducted include Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattishgarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and Assam. The survey aims to provide feedback on the impact of the schemes under NRHM in reduction of Total Fertility Rate (TFR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) at the district level and the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) at the regional level by estimating these rates on an annual basis. The field work for the survey would be undertaken by private agencies and supervised by RGI. The field work for the survey would commence in this year and the first set of result is likely to come up in 2010-11. Based on the experience of this exercise, a decision will be taken for future expansion of the survey to other parts of the country, sources in the Health Ministry said. Launched in April 2005, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has been focusing on bringing improvement in the health system and the health status of the people, especially for people living in rural areas. The Mission seeks to provide universal access to equitable, affordable and quality health care. http://www.igovernment.in/site/Govt-to-launch-annual-health-survey-in-9-states/
